Fish being weird

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 05:05 PM PST

This morning my common goldie scared himself while dashing around before breakfast and ended up face down on the substrate, tail pointed at the surface, under and behind bunches of plants and some driftwood. He was completely immobile, and I had to help him out by lifting him up and directing him around the driftwood. I thought it was weird, but funny. Except when I went to feed him dinner he did it again. I can't tell if he's stuck or just enjoying hiding. I know he hasn't started hating food, and once I get him out of his weird spot he goes back to his normal piggie self.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is my fish so dumb he keeps getting stuck in plants? Or has he discovered a new game?

Would a dwarf sag. Carpet stress my fantail goldfish?

I'm experimenting with plants and ways to reduce the high nitrates (and therefore many water changes) that come with my buddies. Do you guys have any experience with carpeting plants in a goldfish tank? I've seen bare bottoms tanks and pebble tanks and I can't decide whether it might be too stressful for them to have a grassy bottom and not sand to sift through.

Am a new goldfish parent. I've just added these two into their 54 US and 37 UK gallon tank. I've added floating plants which covers almost all the surface. How do you feed your fishes. Do they eventually see the pellets on the floor?
