Help! I got impatient!

Hello everyone! I need HELP! My impatience got the best of me, and I impulsively ordered my fish and he will be here TODAY! I started my fishless cycle approx 3 weeks ago, with media from an established tank day 2, I added live plants day 5 of cycle and a snail day 14. My tank is not fully cycled as my level is at 1ppm. I have added Prime today.
I was advised by an aquarium store to get another small tank (5 gallon), fill it with pre-conditioned aquarium water, and to add beneficial bacteria (API quick start up) to put my fish in until my larger tank is fully cycled. They also advised me to not turn on the filter, as that would create the beginning of a nitrate cycle. The smaller tank I got, I now realize I cannot turn on the light to help heat without turning the filter on. Should I take the filter out temporarily, to allow water flow an the light? I am hopeful the small heater I bought will be sufficient.
While this is temporary, I am nervous. Is this a good idea? It is my intention to once I get him in the big tank to start the small ones nitrate cycle. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Rescued this beautiful boy a few weeks ago. He had horrible fin rot, was malnourished AND had swim bladder issues. Look at him now! He’s thriving!

I love him. Plain and simple. He's got some brilliant pastel blues on his dorsal fin that keep on spreading! Gotta show him off a bit :). FYI the 3 guppies are getting their own home in the 5g as soon as it is finished cycling, and I am getting more plants in the coming week! Haku doesn't mess with them too much but still working on getting them their own crib for everyone's stress levels.

My 20g has lots of ramshorns, 2 assassins, Master Haku and my 3 little guppies (as well as some of their fry, which he completely ignores). Soon I'm sure I will have 15 tanks like most of you.

This has become my favourite subreddit ever; I don't know what I loved in my live before this fish.
