Stocking a 10 gallon Betta cube

Posted: 18 Jan 2021 04:14 AM PST

Hi, I'm planning on setting up my first tank in the near future, I've decided that a single Betta would be a really good choice. I'm planning on doing quite a dense aquascape with a lot of stem plants.

I was originally planning on using Amano shrimp of cherry shrimp to control algae, but I was very much put off this idea when I saw a video of a Betta using a cherry shrimp as an afternoon snack, so I have turned to aquatic snails to control algae in the tank, but I have very minimal knowledge on snails so I thought I better ask for some advice on which ones are best for the job. I would kinda like the snails to be colour co-ordinated with the Betta, and if anyone has any advice on how to keep them alive and keep their numbers manageable, then that would be really helpful!

Hey, I'm relatively new to the mystery snail community but I have found an interest. I found out about them from one of my friends he actually was starting to breed them. he wanted his own website so I teamed up with him and took the Financial side and the website of the business to help him out. I was just wonder if anyone has any advise on building a community around them. I would like for the site to be more than Just the snails were selling and have a Reddit-like forum just around aquatics but I don't know if anyone would use it.

Any advice would be helpful

What are my snails doing?

What are my snails doing?

So I'm new to snail keeping, but I've been trying my best to give my new little guys the best home possible and they've seemed to be really thriving so far. But tonight I went to check on them, and I saw them both doing... something.

(Sorry for the bad image quality, I keep my tarantulas in the same room and I wanted to keep it dark for them)

I'm not really sure what to make of it. Are those their funnels or... something else? The one was on his back when I walked in but they righted themselves by the time I took the picture. I've never seen them this out or this close together!

Can you make Snello Recipe without baby food?

Posted: 17 Jan 2021 06:45 PM PST

I've been looking up some snello recipes for snails and noticed all of them suggest baby food high in protein, but one of them said, "or green vegetables."

Is it possible to make snello with green vegetables, high in protein, instead of using baby food? I already grow my own vegetables and some fruit and would like to use those instead since I tend to have too many vegetables/fruit than I can manage and struggle to get rid of them haha.

Hi all: This may be a ridiculous question, but is this poop? More in the comments.

Wanda still hasn't stopped floating, picked her up and put her in a small bin with her tank water, I didn't put her in a bigger one because I noticed she has a lot of slim on her foot that might be preventing her from hanging into stuff. This is the first time she has eaten in days.

1 Mystery Snail died, now the other is acting weird

Posted: 17 Jan 2021 02:30 PM PST

I had my 2 mystery snails for over a year, and they were full grown when I got them so I'm wondering if they're just getting old. The first snail stopped eating and moving, then stopped pulling into her shell when I touched her, and eventually started to recede into her shell. I took her out of the tank and smelled her and she smelled rotten so I believe she died. That was about two weeks ago, and now the other is starting to be a little less active. I'm worried that there's something other than old age that may be killing them?

They live in a planted aquarium with two African Dwarf Frogs that have never bothered them. I keep the temp at 79°F and the pH is around 7.8 (I know this may be a little high, I added some driftwood recently to try to bring it down a bit gradually). They eat some sinking pellets and occasionally a frozen bloodworm as a treat. Everything else in the tank (like plants and frogs) looks normal. I was inclined to believe it was just old age that killed the first one, but now that the other is starting to act a little weird I'm just getting a bit anxious. Any ideas?

Do Mysteries need supplemental algae wafers in a tank that already has a lot of algae?

Posted: 17 Jan 2021 01:20 PM PST

I have a 70G display + 30G sump system with two Comet goldfish living in it, they've been thriving, but I had a lot of algae buildup on sticks and ornaments - like, a solid dense carpet of thick algae. So I added 6 Mystery snails to the tank, and they went right to work "mowing" the algae down. This was barely a month ago, and I've lost 4 of the 6 snails in that time.

Are my snails dying due to lack of some important nutrients? There is still quite a lot of algae in the tank. In the past few days I've been giving the remaining snails an algae wafer every couple days (in a jar turned on its side half-buried in the gravel so the fish don't steal it). The snails made a beeline for the wafer, so I'm concerned that their friends died due to not getting enough / proper nutrition. I'm a little confused because I had Mysteries in other tanks in the past that lived for around a year with no special attention.

Bladder snail breeding

Posted: 17 Jan 2021 03:08 PM PST

Hi guys, I'm looking into breeding bladder snails for my pea puffer, am I okay to put the snails in an enclosed, airtight box with lid and water to breed them or would I need a fully set up tank with heater/filter etc? Is it okay to do them in an airtight box or do they need natural oxygen from the air?

Meet my dogs! (Just kidding, they’re snails.) I am obsessed with snails now!

Posted: 17 Jan 2021 11:16 AM PST

It's funny because when I first got in the aquarium hobby I did NOT want snails at all. My first order of live plants one single pond snail was on it and I decided to just keep it. Well, months later and it reproduced asexually. Oh, and I also bought a mystery snail. Lol I moved Grogu into its own tank for now because I didn't want my 30 gallon over run with pond snails.

If you have tik tok I would appreciate the follow! I follow back. ❤️snails
