| Mystery and rabbittails in brackish water Posted: 18 Jan 2021 05:26 PM PST Hello beautiful snail lovers! I am currently taking care if a mystery snail and a rabbittail snail. I've had them only for a few months now. I've noticed that the quality of their shell is lowering. After some research and consults, I was recommended to put them in brackish water to help improve their shells. Currently I have them in a 5 gallon paired with a betta. Because of the betta I am unable to add salt. Instead, I plan on moving them to a smaller 2.5 gallon tank I have and making that brackish. What is the best method to transfer them? Should I do a drip and for how long? Is this even recommended or is there better ways to improve my snail's shell quality? [link] [comments] | ||

| Healthy snack for picky Golden Mystery Snail? Posted: 18 Jan 2021 01:05 PM PST Hi all, I got a golden mystery snail named Water Sheep about half a year ago to help with tank maintenance. He is very big about 2 inches and is kind of thicc. I love Water Sheep sooo much, so I have been trying to find a good snack for him that he would actually eat. I kinda feel bad for him having to survive off flakes ): This whole time in the tank he has been living off of fish flakes, algae, and dead plant matter. So I wanted to find a good snack that I could just drop in the tank and he would snack on. I have tried iceberg lettuce, carrots, spinach, cucumber, and broccoli. He refused to eat all of those snacks. Does anybody have any other vegetable recommendations that Water Sheep would most likely eat? I was thinking maybe next I should try regular lettuce but I'm not sure. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 18 Jan 2021 12:27 PM PST I've heard from a few places that mystery snails can "hibernate" for several weeks during the colder months although it isn't very common. I didn't think much of this because I have a heated tank that remains the same temperature all year. Around two months ago I noticed my Ivory mystery snail stopped eating. My other snail died around this time so I feared the worst. I kept leaving food out for her and she wouldn't touch it. She became inactive and I would check on her every day to see if she had died. Her trapdoor was tightly shut and she would move spots every week or so. I started checking on her less and less but always made sure there was food available for her. Two months went by and she hadn't eaten at all. Yesterday after my water change I made sure to put her back in next to some fresh snello (something I did every time after a water change). It was a miracle! This time she finally came out of her shell and started munching. I kept a close eye on her and she clung to the snello for over 24 hours slowly eating away. This morning she is inactive again, with her trapdoor slightly open. Does anyone have any knowledge on this behavior or experienced something similar with their own snails? Any info would greatly appreciated :) [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 18 Jan 2021 10:51 AM PST Hi everyone! Today I was looking in my tank (it's 5gal, also hosts two adult mystery snails and a betta among many plants), and I saw the teeniest tiniest little snail crawling on one of my moss balls! I think it's a baby mystery, but it's too small to tell and too small to photograph. I'd love to be able to raise it, but I'm not sure how to safely do so! I need to do a water change, but I'm so scared it'll get caught in the gravel vac/buried under moving gravel/etc. I'm guessing it came from a plant I added to the aquarium lately, although it does kind of resemble one of my adult snails. But I haven't seen any egg sacs anywhere, so I'm hoping it's just the one. I have a spare 2.5 gallon tank I can use to separate the baby from the rest of the tank, but I don't know if it's safe to move? Any ideas/help would be appreciated, I know that with 3 full grown snails I would probably need to gravel vac like every day because of all the poop haha but I just don't have the heart to euthanize.
