Tank or Pond Size Help Needed

Posted: 13 Nov 2020 12:32 AM PST

Someone mentioned I should post this here as I need more help for my goldfish specifically in stead of my general aquarium issue.

I have a question about tank size for my fan tail. I will be moving next year and will have room for a larger tank for my fantails (I have two). What size tank should I get?

One fantail is older than the other (I have only had it for 5 or 6 months but it is at the very least, a year old). The other is only about 10 months or so old. They will get a lot bigger and I wanna make sure they are comfy and have a tank that will allow them to continue to grow.

I want something that can be their forever home, what size should that be? I haven't ever had a tank size larger than 40 gallons and I know they will need something much bigger, I just don't know what size they will be happiest in. Do yall have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for yalls help! 😃

How many water changes/month for optimal growth?

Hi y'all, I have two single-tail goldfish in a 29 gallon tank. I know, too small, but this is all I can have in a student apartment right now, and it's a brand new upgrade for them from a 10 gallon so they're having a great time- live plants of the edible and inedible variety, good filtration, varied diet, and sand to poke around in. Obviously I'll upgrade when they get a little bit bigger and I'm in a more permanent living establishment.

My fish are 4 and 6 months old. The younger one is 2-3 inches, tbe older one is 3-4. The tank is cycled, parameters are 0/0/0 (tested yesterday) and I haven't seen any of those numbers spike since the cycle finished getting established. I used to do daily 10% water changes when I had them in a 10 gallon, but now that they're in a bigger tank I just vacuum their poop every 2-3 days and fill with water when necessary. The cycle has stayed totally good, so I'm not really worried about that. My question is about how much I should change the water to promote their growth? I know that goldies release growth hormones to grow, and that too much of them can inhibit growth, but I don't know how often I need to be changing water to prevent that and let them grow as much as possible. I'm thinking 20%, once a week? Would that be overkill? I'd appreciate advice from anyone with experience in this area. Thanks.

Hi my tank is kinda empty. Want to add fun stuff for my gold fish but I get scared whenever I look up stuff to add because I dont want it to negatively affect my goldfish. Like I was looking at plants but then co2 becomes and issue ? Then I was looking at items to add but they cant be too sharp or the paint might poison them. I'm beyond exhausted and now just want sure fire links of used items that you guys have tested etc. I have a 60 gallon tank. So far have rocks in there, air bubbler, and a couple silk fake plant things

Do comet goldfish really need more activities in their tank? I have read a few different things that say they need an uncluttered tank to swim a lot or that they need things to swim through and basically play with
