Help! Weird bubble on my fish.

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 10:02 PM PST

Hi guys! I'm not sure if this is allowed but I don't know where else to ask so here goes...

I have a black moor named Patricia. I got her in July. She's been the coolest fish I've ever had! I have her in a 20g right now (I know that's towards the smaller side don't come after me, we're taking advance of dollar per gallon and we've got a 40g cycling right now that I plan to move her to!). Anyway... today I noticed a weird white patch on the top of her tail fin, like right where the tail splits. But under the tail right under the white spot is a big bubble!?! It's almost perfectly round and translucent. Only dark parts look like veins from either the tail or a blood supply.

I googled all day and I can't find anything that looks similar to what's going on!! And I called my LFS where I got her but they said they weren't sure maybe a tumor. I don't think that's likely as it doesn't look like any fish tumor I've ever seen.

Unfortunately just due to her being a very active fish and it being on the underside of her tail fin I can't get a picture at all!

Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced anything similar?? If so I would love to know what I can do for Patricia! For now I have removed her snail friends and salted the tank. Also conditioned with a bit of seachem stress guard. I figured neither could hurt. She's also eating and swimming normally. I do like to watch her pretty often it's very calming for me. I feel like I would have noticed this sooner, this must have just grew in the last couple of days.

Additionally I have a 150g filter so I upped the power to increase water agitation for more O2, there's also an air stone in the water.

Thanks in advance for your advice!!! ♥️♥️

Bent/kinked fin?

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 10:17 PM PST

Hi there, I just got a Ryukin goldfish today (I set up my tank prior) and I noticed that it has bent/kinked tail. I noticed this as soon as I was walking out of the pet store. It seems to be swimming and eating fine, is this normal in goldfish? Should I be worried? I'm a new time owner.

Edit: updated link to video, http://imgur.com/a/khfcVNI as you can see the rear dorsal fin kinks on to itself almost. Not sure if my fish is any pain, or if I should do something to aid it, or if it's just genetic.

TIA!

Oranda with weird wen growth

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:46 PM PST

My oranda with a curious wen growth a few weeks ago. He was his usual active and always hungry self. He would usually have white wen growth that appear as spots. This is the only time I have seen an elongated wen growth. It was easily removed and did not grow back. He's in a 75 gallon tank with 3 demekins and 1 pingpong. Anybody else experience such strange wen growth?

Koko's Goldfish Forum Fundraiser

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:55 AM PST

Hello Goldfish People! Koko's Goldfish Forum is an amazing resource for accurate information on goldfish heath and husbandry. They have a "disease and diagnosis" section where their expert fish keepers walk you through a diagnosis and a treatment plan. Even trolling the site will help you become a better fish keeper and the forum, which is free, ensures that you get accurate info from long time goldfish keepers vs getting inaccurate from randos/less experienced fish keepers on the internet. As a 30 year + goldfish keeper, I still learn from this forum and they have made me a better fish mom. They are in need of some support. You can donate a small amount to the invaluable forum or you can become a member for $7 USD a month. If you are passionate about goldfish and have or plan to use their site, they could really use the support. This is a unique and awesome community so if you can throw them a few bucks to keep their site going in troubled times ( they have a goal of $300 USD) , it would be super rad and your fish will thank you! Other than being a member, I have no affiliation with them but wholeheartedly believe in what they do. Fins crossed they can stay in business. Thanks for reading!

fish illness advice?

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 03:48 PM PST

im freaking out, ive had my oranda for almost a year now and hes always kinda had problems, hes gotten fin rot twice (treated the second it was noticed), he developed issues with swimming up right and just simply getting around easily. ive tried giving him peas and i dont use floating fish food ive tried everything i could find online to help with possible swim bladder. i noticed his scales are starting to get scraped off on one side and his wen is starting to grow over one of his eyes too. i love this little guy so much but hes just never really been the best of the bunch. i dont have any decorations other than pebbles and an air bubbler. i just removed an amethyst chunk that could be leading to his scale loss if hes rubbing on it aswell. i know i sound like a horrible owner and thats not something i would argue against, i have things going on that make it hard to take care of them but ik thats not any excuse at all. i just want some advice on how to help him.

2 goldfish in a 20 gallon?

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:27 PM PST

i have a ~3 y/o goldfish that lives by herself w/ some nerite snails in a 20 gallon. she's been by herself the entire time ive had her and she never seemed to mind it. but recently she's seemed more down and has been less active, so i figure that she might b getting lonely (or whatever the goldfish equivalent to loneliness is) and have been thinking abt getting another goldfish. however, she's huge. she's 5-6 inches. i feel as though she just barely fits in the tank she has now and adding more fish would just b asking for smt bad to happen. her shift in behavior might just b her feeling uncomfortable due to the temp shift as we enter winter, but i know it's still not great to have goldfish by themselves. could i possibly introduce another goldfish of equal size to the current tank? or would i have to scale up? might she fight w the new fish? would it b fine to keep goldfish in pairs or are more recommended?

(btw: i did NOT ask for this fish, she was given to me by a family friend that didnt want her and i didnt wanna doom her to petco. in older posts, i refer to this goldfish by different pronouns but i finally sexed her lol)

Aquarium stands?

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 05:16 PM PST

So I'm upgrading my fancies (I have two) to a bigger tank and I'd love to find a prettier stand to go with the tank. It's going to be probably a 40 gallon unless I can find a 50 or 55 at a reasonable price. Anyone have any advice for a nice and sturdy tank stand? Right now it's on steel shelves, which is super safe but not very visually pleasing lol.

Fish born with deformed fin - need advice

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 04:19 AM PST

Hi, guys. I just adopted a goldfish in order to make things easier for it, but i don't have much experience with fish and googling seems to make me more confused so I'm hoping you could give me some good advice. It seems to be born with deformed fins (looks like it is harder to swim around the tank for it and they are obviously different shaped than the ones from the others). It was also quite smaller than the rest of the fish and a few frogs in previous tank so they pushed it to the ground, picked on it and then I decided to try and make a little chill zone for the poor guy/girl. I transfered it to a different tank about 12 hours ago and poured a few liters of water from it's last tank and the other part was tap water left at room temperature for about 24h. I added thermometer (water's at 22°C), water filter/pump and some kind of sand/small stones at the bottom, which I previously rinsed well in water. Although it was laying in the bottom for good part of the day even in his last home, I'm worried I'm doing something wrong as it's spending the time in the corner since before morning (it's past noon now). It was swimming around a bit last night when we brought it, as it was in the previous tank. I was hoping some of you might have experience with this or a better guess about what to do, what to add to the tank, how to feed a fish like this etc., as well as warn me about things I should not do. For now I plan on adding a live plant (anubias and/or moss), a piece of decor for it to hide/explore and a proper background.

How long should I continue ick treatment?

Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:00 AM PST

Hi everyone,

New goldfish arrived with ick, I'm guessing it was brought on from stress from shipping. Treated with ick gaurd and on the 3rd day of treating all the ick was gone. I continued treating the tank and it's now day 6 of treatment. How long should I continue treatment? There hasn't been any sign of white spots on them since day 3.
