| Posted: 04 Nov 2020 12:40 PM PST Every Wednesday I do a 25% water change. And every time I pour the water in, I make sure to pour it over a decoration so it doesn't disturb anything and keep it to a corner so my fish can chill out in the rest of the tank. Do they do this? No. Naturally, I have to stop mid-pour because one of the ding dongs has decided that he needs to be directly under the incoming water at that very second. And if I don't notice? Whoooosh someone gets swept away.... I swear they'll yeet from the other side of the tank just to bother me. Have they bonked their little heads too many times? Is it the bubbles? Why do they lose their little minds every time [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 Nov 2020 04:09 PM PST Hi, my roommate abandoned a gold fish in a tupaware bin when he moved out. I bought a 29 gal tank to upgrade its life. I know it should be bigger, but I'm on a budget. Since I already have the fish, the fish shop gave me some rocks to add bacteria to the tank. Is this smart to use? The shop owner seemed like a bit of an idiot. Tried to sell me a lot of fish to add to the tank saying the fish tank could hold it. [link] [comments] | ||

| Mass culling of goldfish, need help finding out the cause!! Posted: 04 Nov 2020 11:36 PM PST I've got about 10 goldfish in a large pond in my garden but very sadly 8 of them just passed away all at once. We had just cleaned their pond which we do yearly and has never been a problem and then put them back in after cleaning. This year however we had a ornamental grape vine flower above our pond which dropped a lot of pollen in the pond. Could this have killed them? If not that does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:27 PM PST Hi, I recently got a new beautiful oranda goldfish who has been doing really well in my tank with my plecos. However, when I went to feed him this afternoon I literally could not find him anywhere in the tank, and it's only a 30 gallon with some plants and pleco caves. Finally, I pulled out a small pleco cave and put my fingers back in it, and out slid my beautiful oranda, now with shredded fins and a shredded tail and seeming very out of it. I have no idea how long he was stuck in there, could've been hours. I am not sure if the plecos went after his tail or if he rubbed against the clay cave so much that he shredded it. He has started swimming around a little more normal now, and he ate with my other goldfish. I am just wondering if his tail will ever be back to how it was? It used to be beautiful and long and flowing, and now it's shredded and sharp and stumpy. (I dosed with melafix after feeding) [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 Nov 2020 05:55 PM PST Is it normal for fish to bite each other's scales occasionally? One of my older fish has lost his color and has turned silver grey. Another fish nips at his skin but the other fish seems unbothered by it. No signs of stress or behavioral changes. [link] [comments] | ||
| I have 3 male and 1 female fancy goldfish in one tank. Posted: 04 Nov 2020 01:30 PM PST I have 3 male and 1 female fancy goldfish in one tank. I got them all when they were too young to sex but the past couple of months its becoming more and more clear that 3 of them have breeding stars and chase around what I assume is my only female. I'm debating if its worth giving her to my local aquatics shop and possibly swapping her with another male but my husband thinks she'll be fine since it's only once in a while when they breed. I'm just worried that when they do attempt to breed she'll get too stressed having 3 male's chasing her around the tank. What do you guys suggest? [link] [comments] | ||

| Do I need filter in the aquarium? Posted: 04 Nov 2020 09:59 AM PST Hi all, I have one small goldfish (about 2in) and I'm setting up a 30 gallon aquarium. Since the fish is so small and alone, can I get away with live plants and water changes, instead of getting a filter? Add: I've never had fish before and didn't buy this goldfish. A roommate bought more than 20, all died but one, then he moved out leaving it behind [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 Nov 2020 08:52 AM PST Hi all, first time post. I have a silver standard goldfish probably around 15 years of age now. I've noticed he's got some pink spots showing on his one side and one on his fin on the same side. I've done some research and I'm aware it could be to do with the ammonia levels etc. I will hold my hands up and say I've had him since I was young and I've only ever kept him in an unfiltered tank using tap water and changing him every week or so. I recently started using a different food which I believe has made filtration worse so I'm going to get a better branded one today for him. There's no stones or anything in the tank as I had an episode (which he survived!) Many years ago where they poisoned the water and killed 2/4 fish. But this guy is still going! He's not lethargic or anything like that and he does hit the side of the tank in his mad moments - which is what I'd thought has happened. I'm just wondering if I added a filter to the water now after 15 years, would this stress him out too much and end up killing him or making him ill? I know it would be better for the water, but I don't want to upset an old man. Any advice would be greatly received. Thank you! [link] [comments] | ||
| White filmy spot on goldfish's back Posted: 04 Nov 2020 02:26 PM PST I got these two little ranchu goldfish on Sunday and today I noticed a white filmy spot on the top of one of the goldfish. I dont think its ich. I'm not sure if this is something that he needs medicine for or if it is something that will clear up on it's own. They are in a 75 gallon aquarium, I had it set up for 2 months trying to cycle it before I got them and thought it was ready but the ammonium read .25 today so I did about a 25% water change and dosed with prime and aquarium salt. Full parameters- ph 7.8, ammonium .25, nitrite 0, nitrates 5. Any ideas on what could be the problem? [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 04 Nov 2020 07:49 AM PST I think of of my two goldfish has cotton wool disease. He is acting sluggish and his fins have like a fuzzy look at the end of them. Almost looks like there is dust attached to it. What should I do for the poor little guy? Thanks. [link] [comments] | ||
