| Posted: 02 Nov 2020 06:46 PM PST I've read that letting tap water sit for 24 hours or more gets ride of chlorine. Is it safe for fish or is it still good to use a conditioner? Just of curiosity btw. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 02 Nov 2020 03:09 PM PST I've got two Black Moor Goldfish, (or two Telescope Goldfish, but Black Moor sounds way cooler). They're names are Crowbar and Whale, and as I watch them, I'm noticing how weirdly different Crowbar looks in comparison to Whale, despite them being the same species. While Whale has what looks like two tails that are in the sideways Y position, Crowbar has this weird tail that looks more like a spaceship, with two parts sticking out sideways like wings, and a third part just going straight up. I'm rather new to fancy goldfish, so I'm not quite sure who's the odd one out here. (Crowbar also has a weird thing going on with his mouth, but he eats and swims fine) [link] [comments] | ||
| My one year journey with Goldfish! Posted: 02 Nov 2020 02:56 AM PST Phase One: Ignorance Last November was my son's 7th birthday, on which we promised him to adopt a cat. We went to a local pet store chain to get the needed supplies before adopting the cat. But during our visit, he saw the goldfish and decided that he wanted a goldfish instead. My partner and I thought that a goldfish would be much less maintenance and cheaper so we agreed. Neither of us had any previous experience with aquariums. The employee advised us to get a tiny 3-gallon tank, a filter, and some gravel and told us to change some of the water every other week. My son named the goldfish Tiger because it has orange and black spots on its body. Tiger looked fine for the first month or so, however by mid-December he looked sick and depressed. Spending most of his time at the bottom of the tank. Phase Two: Familiarity I started researching more and more on how to nurture Tiger back to health. My whole family fell in love with him in these two months so losing him wasn't an option. At this point, I learned Tiger was a Comet Goldfish. Most resources online advised me to get a 75-gallon tank, but that was impossible to fit in our apartment. We settled on a 20 gallon long which is about half the length of a 75 gallon. Next, we removed the gravel and replaced it with black sand, got a thermometer and a water testing kit. After placing Tiger in his new aquarium he started swimming all over the place and seemed quite happy. Seeing him darting all over the tank after spending the previous two days being lethargic at the bottom brought a tear to my eye. 10 months later and here we are on the first anniversary. Tiger is happy and healthy. He swims all day long and picks at the sand for fun. I feed him a variety of foods and vegetables. Weekly water tests, and a 24 hr ammonia monitor. Phase Three: Enlightenment A while ago I discovered this subreddit and the world of planted goldfish tanks. I'm now planning on moving Tiger to a bigger 30-gallon aquarium and fill some of that new space with goldfish tolerant plants and a couple of small rocks to prevent uprooting. I hope the plants would make for more stable water parameters so Tiger stays healthy. Don't worry I'll make sure he has plenty of uninterrupted swimming space. If I see he isn't acting like his usual self, I'll remove the plants and rocks. I just wanted to share my experience and newly found love for these fantastic creatures. [link] [comments] | ||
| How can I rehome my goldfish (2) when I have no vehicle and no LFS near me? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:54 PM PST I have been online posting ads about my two fish for about a month, and although people have contacted me, promised me to pick them up, and even put in deposits, nobody has showed up to take the fish. I am currently incredibly busy with school and would like to downsize from two tanks and 4 fish to 2 fish in one tank ASAP. How do I market them? Has anyone had luck in my situation before? | Oranda outcompeting Lionchu for food? Posted: 02 Nov 2020 05:56 PM PST I have an oranda and a lionchu but whenever i feed them the much more active oranda scoops up all the pellets while the clumsy lionchu tries to eat them but ends up missing them with his mouth. Is this a compatibility issue or is there something i can do to help? [link] [comments] | ||

| One of my pair of goldfish has died Posted: 02 Nov 2020 04:51 AM PST So ive had a pair of goldfish for about 6 years and they've been kept in an 80l tank for most of that time. My oldest one was found dead this morning and so thoughts have naturally moved to the survivor. Should i keep him alone? I worry that due to his size he will torment and even kill a fish of the size common to pet stores [link] [comments] | ||
