When can I move goldfish from hospital tank to regular tank? Posted: 20 Nov 2020 07:48 AM PST My son "won" some tiny carnival goldfish which currently live in a 5g tank. I know, I know its not good for them... they are moving to a 60g pond at Granny's house when the weather gets better and she fixes up the pond. Anyway, one of the fish "Spotty" we didn't see for a few days (assumed he was in the hut) until I found him stuck in a plastic flower on Monday, at the brink of death. I put him in a separate 2g bowl, put in Seachem stress coat (its what I have for my bettas which I'm much more familiar with) and he shockingly started to get better by the next day. I think he had swim bladder problems as for the next few days he couldn't swim correctly (which might be how he got stuck in the plastic flower). Surprisingly he's seem to have made a full recovery! When do you think its safe to put him back in the regular tank? Should I give him a full week to recover? [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Nov 2020 05:47 PM PST Hi all! I do not have any fancies as of yet, but I plan on getting a set up in the future. I followed a couple goldfish suppliers on instagram, namely King Koi Goldfish and Goldfish Island. I once read some bad reviews on here about one of, I think King Koi, but I can't find the post and I don't remember super well. What would you recommend? Who do you prefer to buy your fishy friends from? (Doesn't have to be either of these mentioned, they're just who I know) TIA!!! [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Nov 2020 05:04 PM PST In the span of a few days my beautiful and vibrant black moor Baby Driver is now barely hanging on for life. I've had her for several months in a well-established and planted 36 gallon. She's named Baby Driver because she would seriously zoom across the tank like a race car and she would always play in the filter current and jump when swimming against it. I ordered filter cartridges from Amazon and did a usual water change this past Tuesday. When I woke up Wednesday I checked up on her and she was in the bottom corner not acting like herself. A little later that day I thought maybe the filter cartridge was somehow contaminated so I threw it out (I have another filter running). I did multiple water tests these past few days and everything is fine (Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 40) Doing some wiki reading here I thought maybe she is constipated so I gave her some cucumber and a small piece of algae wafer. She started swimming again but spent most of her time in the corner. This morning I found her stuck in the filter intake, and I mean stuck. I was able to gently free her with my hand. First thing I saw was her scales rubbed off. I think her tail is broken because it's floppy with very bright streaks of blood on the fin part. Now she's just floating along with the current of the water though sometimes tries to swim. She's having trouble breathing and her once matte black scales have started turning orange. I put StressCoat and added salt to the water. I'm not sure if a small water change would be too stressful for her. I know there's probably nothing I can do for her but try to keep her comfortable, if possible? I've had goldfish for most of my life and this one is absolutely killing me. I keep thinking of how playful and full of personality she was when I got her and now having to see her in such pain. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Nov 2020 10:53 AM PST Hi, I was so happy to find this goldfish specific reddit! This is my first post here. I adopted two goldfish from the daycare I worked at about 2 years ago. Poor little guys had been in a one gallon tank for around 3-4 years and very unhappy. I immediately put then in a 15 gallon with a substrate of aquarium gravel and a filter. It was so great to see them grow and become more active! Today the smaller of the two died unexpectedly. The other fish seems healthy but I'm keeping a close eye on him. I've learned their tank was a little too small so I got a second hand 20 gallon tank that I'm in the process of cleaning out, I was planning on moving them both to it as soon as it was ready. My question is this; Since goldfish are social should I get my guy a new friend and move it into the current 15 gallon, make sure everyone is healthy and getting along, and then move them both to the 20 or should I finish setting up the 20 gallon, ensure my little fish is settled in it, and then introduce another goldfish? I love them both and I'm so upset the little one died. I don't want to cause the other fish any stress or for him to be lonely. I'm working on getting a 30 or 40 gallon tank but that's going to be a couple months. I think it's pretty obvious I'm a fish newbie so I'd appreciate any tips you guys have! Thank you!! Posted: 20 Nov 2020 04:06 PM PST Hey all, somewhat long time lurker here. My 6 year old fantail has been developing a white lump on his left side, behind his gills, for a few months. I upgraded tanks from a 10 gallon to a 20 gallon over the summer, after the lump had first appeared (in hindsight, probably should've gone for something even bigger). He behaves normally, always sifting through the pebbles and begging for food when he sees me. Water parameters seem fine as well, though hardness is high. Here's a pic: Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Nov 2020 03:37 PM PST I have a 38gal tank with a fantail goldfish about an inch and a half long and an inch wide, along with a school of 15 white cloud minnows. I just brought home a black moor goldfish who's slightly bigger than the fantail. The fantail is following the black moor around the tank and nipping at his fins and eyes. I used a net to gently push him away to lay off the black moor but he keeps coming back. I don't know the sex of either fish. Is this an issue that will continue in the long run or will they eventually warm up to each other? The fantail has been in the tank about three weeks, and the minnows two weeks. He initially chased the minnows around too but has since stopped. I'd hope this is an indication he'll get used to the black moor but I really don't know and appreciate any insight given :) [link] [comments]

Wen pimples oozing for 2+ weeks now Posted: 20 Nov 2020 07:33 AM PST My Oranda had a big wen pimple in the top of his head about 2+ weeks ago. Normally they would come and go within a couple days, but this one stuck around and began oozing a lot, and getting bigger every day. I tried treating with hydrogen peroxide and that would help for a day or 2 but it kept coming back. On Monday I set up quarantine and began treating with API Furan-2 on Tuesday. It's not helping, and I think it's actually getting worse. I swabbed it again today with hydrogen peroxide and the q-tip went directly into his wen with no force applied. It didn't seem to hurt him at all, or even cause discomfort. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Please, any suggestions would help! [link] [comments] |
