Live feeders

Posted: 13 Nov 2020 09:05 AM PST

I was wondering where to get live worms? My local pet shop doesn't have them. Should I worry about worms getting axies sick from being toxic or having parasites? Also is there a different between knightcrawlers and earthworms? Is there any other feeder I should be aware of? They currently eat pellets with occasional treats.

Axolotl tips of toes turning red?

Posted: 13 Nov 2020 09:04 AM PST

Hello, I'm a little bit concerned about one of my green wild type axolotls. His toes have been turning red for the past couple of days. (Pics included). It is mostly the back feet, not so much the front, and they also sort of have white tips. It doesn't look like red leg bacteria as the axolotl is eating normally/doesn't appear otherwise sick but the red toes are concerning me. It also seems to me that he may be trying to keep his feet off the ground more. I thought it could possible be some sort of foot rot as I've never changed his sand but I don't even really know how to go about doing that/if it's a good idea or not. I thought it may be possible that he's just reaching sexual maturity but they seem very bright red and I didn't know if that was normal or not. Any advice appreciated!

Tips for getting started?

Posted: 13 Nov 2020 12:48 AM PST

Hello, I'm not planning on getting an axolotl anytime soon. But I've always wanted to get one so hopefully in the future that happens.

Anyway I wanted to ask for tips and recommendations on what's required and the best way to get started. I'd like to be able to come back to this one day when I need it. This would also be helpful in comparing things google and websites suggest to what people who actually own them say.

If you have any time to add a tip or suggestion, I'd appreciate it, thanks.

I am an axolotl and here are some facts about me

Posted: 13 Nov 2020 12:04 AM PST

1. I don´t like colored sand or gravel, because it contains chemicals. I prefer rounded natural gravel (1-3mm grain size), sand and axogravel. Unfortunately, the sand in my aquarium gets dirty so quickly, so I prefer the rounded gravel

2. Everything that is smaller than me I will eat because I am almost blind anyway. Yes, I will also eat my similar roommates if they are much smaller than me. And fish, I like to eat them too. Unfortunately they sometimes get stuck in my gills or have the fungus BD (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis)

3. I don´t like light. Especially no UV light. Please always give me enough shady places

4. I may look healthy, but I can still suffer from the disease BD. So please test me at least once a year

5. I do not like real wood at all, because it decomposes after a while. It attacks my mucous membranes

6. I love to run on the floor, so please give me 5cm space on all edges, so I can look at you from all sides

7. I love real plants, i even like climbing around on them. I also like to play football with moss balls

8. If I suffer from BD I have to take medication and the whole aquarium has to be disinfected. For this my owner needs Vikron S

9. When I am new, I want to wait in my quarantine to get used to these strange new water values. If I am put into the new aquarium immediately, I might get sick because stress weakens my immune system

10. I will be grateful and happy for all this

Anyone else have an axolotl who won’t eat their food unless it’s moving?

This lady is selling baby axolotls and misinforming all her buyers on how to take care of them. Please go report this page. Hopefully this is allowed here.
