Can axolotls regenerate their slime coat? Posted: 23 Nov 2020 10:04 AM PST Can axolotls regenerate their slime coat? So I've heard about not being able to pet axolotls because it can damage their slime coat, can they regenerate it? I'm kind of worried because before I found out about this I would touch my axolotls and pet them a little when I was cleaning the tank. [link] [comments]

Aquaponics system with an axolotl Posted: 23 Nov 2020 07:47 AM PST Hey all! Very new here. I've read the general pins, but I'm sure I'm missing some obvious information, sorry in advance. SO. Ive been looking into a small aquaponic gardening system lately, nothing insane, just some herbs or something as proof of concept before i do anything big. For those unaware, aquaponics is growing plants in water with aquatic creatures. The creatures poop, producing nitrogen, the plants filter the water and get nutrients, the clean water goes back to the tank, etc. My question is, would an axolotl produce enough waste to reasonably feed something like that? Obviously this is super specific, i dont imagine anyone here is a master at both of these things, but does anyone know how even in-water decorative plants grow? Kind of hard to find a rule of thumb for axolotl pooping habits. I'm just concerned that with the waste being produced so slowly by only one animal, maybe some of it would be stuck near the bottom of the tank with the axolotl, causing health issues. Alternatively, I've been thinking about some kind of pseudo-tank-mate kind of thing. Where maybe i have a taller 20 gallon tank, split in half in the middle with mesh and acrylic or something, so i have the waste production of a bunch of fish and an axolotl, but without the issues itd cause the axolotl. Post has gotten long, I'm just thinking out loud at this point. If anyone has any experience with this kind of thing, please let me know! [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2020 02:19 AM PST My axolotl is about 8 years old. I feed him earth worms and he comes to the surface about every 3 days for food. I've tried to give him worms while he's in his moss forest but he won't take them. I feel like I'm starving him, is this enough food? [link] [comments]

detritus worms in axolotl tank Posted: 22 Nov 2020 02:58 PM PST hi! so im in the process of cycling my axolotl tank and i noticed some detritus worms in the water. i know typically they're harmless and good for a planted tank ecosystem when they're not taking over the tank, but im gonna be using all fake plants. is it a good idea to try to get rid of them all before i eventually put in my bebe? i don't want him to get sick as soon as he starts chillin in there. thank u!!!!! :D [link] [comments] |
