Help me!

Okay I'm stumped at this point

I've been cycling my tank for over a month. Last weekend all my readings read 0ammonia 0 nitrite and 80 nitrate. 3 days in a row. I was told to do a large water change the bring the nitrates down. So I did about 90%. And then all my readings messed up. So I asked someone avoit it and they said it was going throufh a mini cycle.

This weekend it read zero again. So instead of a 90% water change I did 50% to bring the nitrates down. This morning my parameters read 0 ammonia .50 nitrite and 40 nitrate.

What am I doing wrong!? The bacteria doesnt live in the water it lives on the filter and surfaces in tbe water. Doing a water change shouldnt affect my readings! So why is mine😭😭 I just want it to be done already. Its showing that it's been done 2 times until I do a water change. What do I do

My boyfriend and I are trying to make a chiller and one of the things in the chiller is copper and aluminum. If the water touches those 2 metals can it harm my axie?

"How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Gravel"- Thoughts?

Posted: 21 Nov 2020 01:48 AM PST

https://embryogenesisexplained.org/2015/09/10/gastroliths-how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-gravel/

I found this article written by a scientist who conducted an experiment on a colony of axolotls. The conclusion she came to was that axolotls are one of many animals that intentionally swallow stones to help with digestion, and that owners who've had axolotls die only to find a belly full of (average sized) gravel have been mistaken in thinking that was the cause of death. The San Diego Zoo apparently agrees with the final conclusion. I'm posting because I'm pretty skeptical and want to hear what y'all have to say, not because I'm certain I agree! The fact that individuals have size preferences in the bits of gravel they swallow has got me interested though. I'd suggest reading the whole article before commenting.

MORE cycling advice

Posted: 21 Nov 2020 10:30 AM PST

Hi all. Still cycling, getting ready for our girl to come home at some point. We've been at this for just barely a month and today's numbers were still really off. Ammonia is at 4.0!!! Nitrite at 1.0. Nitrate at 10. I've been changing 20% of the water 1x a week. We have a handful of teeny tiny guppies in there right now, and apparently they make a TON of ammonia? I've also be supplementing with Fluval Cycle (concentrated biological booster) to get the nitrates moving a bit faster, but that obviously isn't happening. Any thoughts on what else I should be doing?

Help?

Posted: 20 Nov 2020 07:42 PM PST

Hi, I'm going to get my first axolotl in March. I have a 20 gallon long tank and I'm going to get a big sponge filter. My question is, can I have 2 axolotls in the 20 gallon? I don't want it to get lonely and I have gotten a lot of different answers. Also, would that mean I have to do bigger water changes? Thanks!

As in, how long does it take from putting them together - to laying eggs take?

My Axolotls begging for more food after a big feed

I'm super paranoid and pretty sure this is just sand, but would love some insight about the white spots around my Sigmund's mouth.

I have to give my axolotl, Arnold to a new home. :(

Posted: 20 Nov 2020 05:18 PM PST

I'm going to be moving back to Georgia and I'm going to be driving a uhaul there from Washington state. I can't think of anyway to transport him that far without the stress of it killing him. I got him when he was a tiny little baby and raised him to the big boy he is today for the last 3 years. And there's no point to this post other than to vent. His new owner is picking him up on Sunday and I can't stop tearing up about it. I never thought I could get so attached to such a weird little fish boy. But he's been my best friend. My dog died right when I got him, and I broke up with my long term gf recently, so he's been my little buddy to keep my spirits up. I love him so much and I wish this didn't hurt so bad.

Adolescent Axolotl Looking for New Home

Posted: 20 Nov 2020 06:13 PM PST

If there are any axolotl breeders looking for a healthy, roughly 5 inch, white axolotl in Maryland I have one we are looking to re-home. We can provide along with her a 29 gallon talk, a filter, a syphon for cleaning, and plants and slate rocks for the tank. Probably not looking for any kind of payment for her. She is a young axolotl, in her adolescence, and her name is Acxa, after the character from Voltron Legendary Defender. We are able to take care of her for the time being and are in no rush to find her a new home, but given that the tank needs cleaning at least once a month, we are starting to struggle to find time to clean it as often as necessary now that things are opening back up as covid cases in our area decline. If you are interested please reply to this post with the name of your company and preferably business email. Because I myself am 14, I will try to have my mother reach out to you via email.

Axolotl floating at surface, frantically swimming into the surface

Posted: 21 Nov 2020 12:09 AM PST

Recently my axolotl has started floating at the surface of our tank. At first, she would nip my fingers like she normally does but recently she hasn't and hasn't seemed particularly interested in eating. She is able to come down, but doesn't do so often without being nudged. Occasionally, when sitting at the surface, she will swim into the air vigorously, like she is trying to escape.

I am very worried and if anyone has any clue what is wrong, please tell me what I can do.
