Shake it off! Bladder snail shakes off the assassin.

Should I try to selectively breed these pale bladder snails? I need a new pandemic hobby and they're pretty cute.

What the best way to remove mystery snail hatchlings from tank?

Posted: 19 Nov 2020 08:46 PM PST

I want to keep them alive but I was wondering what is the best method to collect them and move them to a new tank instead of picking them up one by one? They just hatched today

I want to be able to my mystery parents apart, can you mark a mystery snail shell?

Posted: 19 Nov 2020 11:59 AM PST

Is there a way to safely mark a shell of a mystery snail so I can tell them apart, like a single dot of perminant marker or something? I want to separate siblings from each other and add in fresh blood to my snail population but all my snails look the same. I can identify them during mating or egg laying but otherwise its practically impossible.

mysterious snail death? + snail leech advice

Posted: 19 Nov 2020 11:11 AM PST

i was away for a week (with a pet sitter) and just got back to find one of my japanese trapdoor snails dead in a strange way. her body had been pulled clean out of her shell and eaten away at quite a bit. only about half of it was left. her operculum was lying next to it. :(

she just died yesterday, there are pics of her cruising around two days ago. she was lying face up with her operculum closed and 24 hrs later shes like this. i initially noticed my shrimp acting weird and couldn't figure out why (my test kit read 0ppm ammonia) then as i was looking around a little i noticed her.

i've had snail leeches in the past but removed all of them and have had 15 other snails in there for 2 months with no issue, including 2 other jtds. (i added her 3 weeks ago) what could've caused this? parameters are normal, temp normal, etc. i thought it could've been bc i left instructions to only feed on the last day so no algae wafers for 5 days but theres plenty of plants she could've eaten. i figure the snails and shrimp probably ate her a bit post mortem but idk what caused her death. tyia

update: i just noticed a tiny snail leech in the substrate. i looked over the substrate and found 3 more, 4 mm, 1/5", & 1/4". i checked a few more times over the next 5 hours and didn't see any more. is there a pesticide i can dose the tank with to kill them? could one or two tiny leeches do this to a 1 1/2" snail in 1 day? i looked over all my other snails and don't see any suckers
