Why does my snail play dead?

Posted: 15 Nov 2020 10:12 PM PST

She likes to lay on her back, partly sticking out of her shell... she looks dead almost all the time. But she usually responds to touch (but not all the time) and on occasion acts totally fine?? Wtf??

Questions about Mystery Snails

Posted: 15 Nov 2020 11:57 PM PST

Hi there, hopefully this post is alright on this subreddit. I am new to the snail world but I really have fallen in love with the mystery snail.

  • If I only wanted a single snail in an aquarium what would be a minimum size for them to be comfortable?
  • Are there any plants I can put in the aquarium that they would especially like? (I see moss balls in a lot of snail aquariums for some reason?)

If there's any other tips you guys can give me as a person completely new to snails, please let me know! Thanks for reading.

Edit: If not mystery snails, are there any snails that would be well suited for a 1-3 gal tank? I know bladder snails seem to be pretty small so those might work.

Oh yeah, if there are other snail breeds that you think would be better than a mystery snail for a newbie like me - please send them my way! I would love to learn more about different types.

Really worried about my less active Nerite snails + white worms. HELP ):

Really worried about my less active Nerite snails + white worms. HELP ):

Hello! My Nerite snails have always been active - moving up and down leaves.

However, after feeding them a carrot (blanched for 20 mins) - they ate it and seemed to be really inactive and hiding in their shells. Read that it might be a food coma but its been more than a week and they do move but a lot slower. I've noticed that they've stopped wandering on the leaves but instead hide at the bottom of the tank.

I've also noticed white worms on the glass (read that they won't harm my snails - correct me if I'm wrong) and long strings of green from my leaves. Anyone have any advice?

I'm really worried about the lil guys. Attached images for reference. Please help ):

Will calcium tablets help their shells?

Posted: 15 Nov 2020 03:27 PM PST

I have a ton of MTS in my tank and their shells are looking terrible. I have some regular ole calcium tablets that I guess I bought for just this reason (and completely forgot about). Will just dropping a few tablets in (125g tank) be enough to help them? I added about 6 or so after a water change today and they dissolved pretty fast. Or should I get something they'll actually graze on? I have cuttlefish bone in the tank but I guess it's not doing much of anything.

So it looks like one of my Nerites decided to lay eggs on the filter outflow... I’m not quite sure how or why, but they did.

LFS Nerite source?

Posted: 15 Nov 2020 12:31 PM PST

Do any hobbyists here breed Nerites? Do you know if independent and big box LFS use captive bred or wild caught Nerites? Just curious.

What kind of snail is this? And are those white things around the shell parasites?
