Feeding time

My mystery snail never shows his breathing tube, I didn’t even know mystery snails had those crazy long breathing tubes until i joined reddit a few weeks ago. Does anybody know why Superstar never shows his tube?

My mystery snail is eating my floaters, is he starving, or just looking for a snack.

Mystery snail with missing antennae.

Posted: 19 Nov 2020 02:49 AM PST

What could cause a mystery snail's antennae to disappear? Fish nipping at them? Bad water conditions? Malnourishment? I want to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I feed my snail cucumber and romaine lettuce because there's not much algae in my tank.

There's a small school of Buenos Aires tetras, but I've never seen them nipping at the snail. There used to be a school of mosquito fish too, but I had to move them somewhere else because they were nipping at the tetras. At first I thought they were the source of the problem, but apparently it wasn't that way.

In the tank there's hornwort, vallisnerias, rotala rotundifolia and java moss. Temperature is about 26° C.

The substrate is composed of very coarse gravel (I couldn't find anything else at the moment), is there a chance he could've hurt himself when falling onto the substrate?

Haven't checked the parameters yet, but I'll see if I can take a sample to a nearby aquarium shop so they can test it.

Also, I was thinking about putting a cuttlebone in the tank just in case, but I don't know where to get them. There aren't any petsmarts in my country and our currency is so shite that international sellers want nothing to do with us, lol. I think a local pet shop may sell cuttlebone for birds, but is it safe to use in aquariums?

Thank you!

Why do my snails (mostly this one) keep trying to leave the tank?

Do Spixi (zebra apple) Snails eat hydra? Do they also eat live plants?

Am I the only one who thinks cuttle bones are useless - my snails never touch it

What to do when your Mysteries won’t eat snello?

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 08:16 PM PST

Won't eat? Don't like? Aren't accustomed to snello?
What ever the reason- I have 3 mystery babies that were said to be raised on snello and, so far, all they seem to actively eat is blanched romaine I put in to catch bladder snails on 🤦🏼‍♀️.
I am worried about them never liking snello. What's your favorite recipe additive? I have tried tropical flakes as an add in and some with nothing but kale and zucchini. Always following the recipe in the file substituting the baby food for kale and zucchini I blend myself. Am I over thinking this? Is the magic the baby food?

Have your mystery snails eaten your plants?

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 08:12 PM PST

I had 2 mystery snails that devoured my plants even though I was told they only eat decaying plants. I actually watched one chomp down and separate a piece of my jungle vallesnaria. I ended up returning them to PetSmart and won't be getting them again. Ots weird because I have another small mystery snail that was listed under ivory that doesn't eat my plants.

Planaria in tank! If a medication is safe for shrimp will it also be safe for snails?

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 06:58 PM PST

I found a medication that says it's safe for shrimp. I'm hoping I won't have to take my snails out to use this med!

My apple snails don't reproduce

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 01:38 PM PST

I bought three apple snails three weeks ago and they have not reproduced. In the store they told me that they lay eggs quite often and could even be considered a pest, but so far nothing has happened.

I have them in a 6-liter fish tank, I had to deal with temperature and dirt problems, there was a moment where they were inside their shell for two days in a row but now they are normal.

Two of them have a black beak and the other is yellow.

Could someone tell me the exact time they reproduce? thank you very much to all
