| Tips for overwintering in Wisconsin? Posted: 06 Nov 2020 12:39 PM PST Just bought a house that came with a koi pond! It's about 2-2.5 feet deep, and I'd say about 6ft × 10ft wide just eyeballing it. We are in southern WI, zone 5a. Winters here get very cold & frozen. The previous homeowner said they just use a de-icer and keep the pump going... is this enough or do I need a heater? I've been scooping out tons of leaves and debris trying to prepare for winter but I'm kind of out of my element here! Another issue, our pond is definitely overpopulated. I believe there were about 30, we just found a home for 12 of them. But I think we still have too many! What number of fish is recommended? I was thinking 5 or 6.. most of them are about 8-10 inches long, there are a few smaller ones. Do I need to cover the pond? We haven't had any issues with raccoons yet. [link] [comments] |
