With a relatively cheap wireless microscope, you can get some really cool footage of your shrimp (link to the one I got in comments if interested)

Big addition to the aquarium room! With limited space every inch counts. So I had a custom sized rack fabricated to use very bit of space possible. Will post updates as it comes together.

My Blue Velvet Shrimp Paradise

Shrimp left eggs in the molt, I don't have tumbler so I put them in this isolation thing I had and stuck it right above my air pump to keep them moving, is this a fools errand?

First time I’ve caught my shrimps in action. Did I scare them? Or fertilizing the eggs is really quick?

Setting up 5 gallon caridina tank, advice needed :)

Posted: 19 Oct 2020 11:54 PM PDT

Hi all!

I'm currently planning to set-up a 5+ gallon caridina tank. I already have a neo tank up and running, which is doing fine.

For this new tank I'm going to use RO with Saltyshrimp mineral, on a soil substrate.

What would be the best way to kick start the cycle of this tank? I do have some mature cycle media available from the other tank.

Should I start the cycle directly with RO + mineral water? Or is it OK to run the cycle on regular tap water as no shrimps are in yet? Also, do I need to add ammonium to jump start the cycle? Or will the leaking of ammonium from the substrate be enough for this? (I will use Glasgarten Environment soil)

I will add plants to the tank from the start.

All advice is welcome, since it is the first time setting up a caridina tank!

Thanks :)

Shrimp are brutal... Their buddy dies and the first thing they do is eat him.
