Stunted Growth (9 y/o common)

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 07:12 PM PDT

So I got my current common goldfish 9 years ago at a fair while I was in elementary school. Being a dumb kid, I kept him in a 5 gallon for around 4 years, then we switched him to a 10 for around 5 years, and just recently I was finally able to convince my parents to allow me to buy and keep him in a 20. I have made drastic improvements to his quality of life including water changes, live plants, better water monitoring, and oxygenation. I've been looking into his food recently and I'd like to start feeding him more often and change up his diet for a bit, but I have some concerns. 1. Is he too old to grow? Will feeding him more and better food cause him to grow? He is around 2 inches long and hasn't shown any growth for around 4 years now. He has never had any major health problems besides cataracts (he's doing fine, his vision is just kinda bad). 2. If he's not too old to grow, how fast can I expect him to grow? I have no issues setting up a massive tank for him, however doing the research, convincing my parents, and getting the supplies will probably take atleast a month or two, especially if I have to rearrange my room to fit a 75 gallon.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Goldfish plan for 55g

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:39 PM PDT

I've got a 55g cycling with a fluval 307 canister and as of now it only has sand. I want to keep the tank minimalistic as it is a display in the living room so I thought maybe I can keep goldfish. However, I hear they produce too much waste and water changes every week is mandatory and fancy goldfish are prone to disease. I want to keep around 2-3 fish that are hardy. Is there a specific variety that is hardy and produce lower waste?

12 year old carnival Gold Fish.

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:31 PM PDT

My friend and his wife won a gold fish from a carnival. They had him for like 11 or 12 years then decided to move across country and didnt think he would make the trip, so now I have had a giant gold fish for the last 9 months or so.

Help. My pealscale recently started moping at the botom and today I noticed this rash. I already did a 100% waterchange and was so panicked I forgot to test the water. What should I do?

Should I save some goldfish from a well?

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:25 PM PDT

I have a forest behind my house and in the middle of the forest in a clearing is a well, I'd say 80 gallons no filter no water changes. This well has 9 goldfish in it, they are not fed or taken care of. 5 of the fish are fancy fish and the other 4 are feeder goldfish. Two of the fancy ones are butterfly or long tail, one of them is Shubunkin and the other two are comet goldfish. The water is so bad that you can't see 3 inches in, the only plant is a lilly pad. Should I save the fancy goldfish? I already have 4 goldfish in my pond and today I rescued one of the long tails poor thing it was so thin that you could see it's bones and it had ammonia burn on its gills, there used to be a white butterfly koi in the well but it died because of a raccoon, the reason I did not save that one is because I did not have a Pond when it was alive. Should I save the fancy goldfish? Please let me know.

white fuzz on fantail nostril, do i need to quarentine? please help!

Posted: 02 Oct 2020 05:35 AM PDT

hi new fish keeper been lurking here for a while

my oranda fantail craig has had a white spot on his nose since last night. at first i suspected that it was an injury from bumping into decor but this morning he had white fuzz on it, and ive read a post here saying that the white fuzz went away as it was "snot", but im not sure if that applies to my golfish therefore im taking precautions

did my research about fungal infections and i suspect that it might be that, i also checked the water quality last night and the pH, kh and gh are on not comfortable levels so im going to the pet store to try and fix that. i do not have a quarentine tank cycled as ive found out about this today so when quarentining im aware that i will have to do 100% water changes frequently as the ammonia will spike. i have finrot/fungus treatment bought from before but my other fish isnt infected so i wasnt sure if it was alright to dose the water while the other one was in it

please let me know. i care too much for my boys i dont want them to die young 😭

FINAL UPDATE: just found out its just extra slime to heal his nose injury after he bonked it on decor, removed any potentially spikey decor & replaced it with smooth decor so he can take care, did a 50% water change and added in a 1/2 teaspoon of API pH up to boost pH + kh levels :)
