Posted: 12 Oct 2020 02:47 AM PDT I've noticed this is such a taboo topic with the axolotl community, some people think adding them with your axolotl means they will die of get nipped at. Honestly in my opinion I think they're okay if you've quarantined them and you've monitored them to make sure they don't nip. What do you think? [link] [comments]

Tips on planted tanks for axolotls Posted: 12 Oct 2020 10:32 AM PDT Hey! I am about to move into my first house next month. I want to get a 50 gallon low boy and have been trying to research planted tanks. In the past most of my plants die, which is frustrating. So I have kept with silk plants and bamboo for the time being. I have a 33 gallon long for my two adults males, but I just want them to be fully upgraded, with something more natural. Any tips and tricks would be helpful! -plants that tolerate cool water -tank chiller -a light bulb to help the plants grow but not stress out my lotls????? -good substrate (I keep a bare bottom tank) Thank you [link] [comments]

I really need some guidance, please help! Posted: 12 Oct 2020 09:13 AM PDT So my husband really wanted to purchase two axolotls. I agreed and said they would be fun little creatures, and began to do my research as I've heard these little ones can be a bit of work. I am brand new to aquariums, never had fish or any aquatic life before. My dad used to keep a ton of fish - literally 15-20 tanks at a time. Anywho, as I did some research into axies, I discovered the nitrogen cycle and the need to cycle a tank. I told my husband about this, he did very little research and essentially wrote it off, saying we just needed to get some plants in the tank. I didn't think this was a good idea and said we should wait to get the animals, he disagreed and bought them before our tanks we're ready to go. Now here we are - ammonia is present and much too high, nitrites are barely present, and nitrates are at a 0. I have no idea what to do at this point. Do I buy two 10 gal tanks (each has a 20 gal now) and put the axolotls each in one and do a daily water change until their regular tanks are fully cycled? Or should we tub them? I'm afraid to tub them as I don't want them to be confined to such a small space for however many weeks it might take to cycle their tanks. If we get two smaller tanks, should we get a sponge filter for each as well? And what should we do with the tanks that have ammonia but have not fully cycled? I know this is super bad and I am freaking out and just really need some advice. I knew I'd be the one taking care of them even though I was not ready to do so. I just want to make sure the little babies get back to safe conditions. Thanks in advance to any who read. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Oct 2020 09:03 AM PDT Hey guys so I got my axolotl a few months ago she is full grown. The problem is yesterday I changed up her tank and usually when I do this she's fine with it. I added a air stone it doesn't really change the current but she keeps hiding and doesn't come up to see me anymore? Is it the air stone? It's tucked behind something? Water temp, levels, and everything is good [link] [comments]
