I don't own a reef tank, don't have the burning desire to own a reek tank, just joined cause I thought they looked pretty but honestly - this has easily become one my favorite subs. There's just so much positivity, support, and funny humor here about how your fish and corals sabotage themselves. I spend so much time appreciating the sense of community you guys have built here. Thanks for being a bright spot in the otherwise Dark Timeline!

6th month update on my budget 40B tank

Literally the happiest my tank has made me in 3 months since I’m now 2 weeks Dino free and everything is plump and happy again. Big shoutouts to all the redditors posts I’ve crept on for advice on how to beat them.

Help

Posted: 16 Sep 2020 09:03 PM PDT

Was wondering why our feather duster lost his crown and slid out of his tube...just noticed these orange worm like things coming out of the tube so I'm guessing they're killing him? They seem to be multiplying pretty quickly all over the tank. I have absolutely no idea about anything regarding salt water tanks, and I'm learning as I go. I've regularly tested the water which seems to be great so I'm not sure what else could be upsetting the feather duster. Aside from the feather duster, I have a clownfish, peppermint shrimp, white-banded shrimp, 3 cleaner crabs, zoas, star polyps, and a dying mushroom coral that I think my clownfish might've hosted to death...or almost to death, not sure. (The little dudes in here were supposed to be cared for by the person that bought them but that didn't happen and I don't want them to die.) Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Help, my hospital tank is out of control

Posted: 16 Sep 2020 07:08 PM PDT

I recently got a blue powder tang and it introduced ich into my aquarium.

I moved all my fish to a hospital tank to treat them with copper but it's day 3 and ammonia is already at 1ppm, nitrite at .5-1ppm. My fish are all hyperventilating and I'm getting really worried. I got Pro-Ammonia Detox by Kent and an hour later my ammonia measurements are not longer accurate - the color just doesn't match the color scale.

I'm going to start doing heavy water changes but there's only so much RODI I can produce and change every day. I just don't see how I'm going to keep all my fish alive for 12 weeks that it will take for ich to leave my main tank. Am I better off moving them back and try to manage ich through diet instead? I have hundreds of $ of fish in this dirty water and I'm freaking out

What is this filamentous stuff on my rock and how do I clean my rock?

Posted: 16 Sep 2020 07:32 PM PDT

Hello, I've had a bad red cyanobacteria outbreak. I just blasted my live rock with a turkey baster and am about to vacuum the sand. I noticed this weird fuzzy, filamentous stuff that I guess was beneath the champ bacteria. Does anyone know what it is?

I recently got a ro/di unit recently and have done only 2 water changes of about 15% using the high quality water. Will this just be an over time of clean water changes it will clear up with actively cleaning the rock and sand bed?
