When we rescued her we thought she wouldn't last the year, she was such a mess. 5 years later she finally decided to rest. You were a very brave one, Sushi!

Whats wrong with my goldfish?

Should I be worried about my goldfish?

Posted: 27 Sep 2020 01:41 PM PDT

I just performed a water change (about 40 percent) but I also cleaned the rocks and the filter. It has been about 2 hours and my fish are sitting at the bottom of the tank. I understand that it's probably stress making them do this, but how long can they be at the bottom before I start worrying? Also is there any way to save them? Any help is appreciated I really love these little guys. Edit: It's a ten gallon tank and I don't have water tests on hand, but I do have an ammonia detector and it says the levels are .04 ppm. I don't know how to add a picture but both fish are in the corner behind a hideaway, facing the wall. They are gently flapping their fins occasionally but not really going anywhere.

Help!!!

I need some quick answers on a temporary tank.

Posted: 27 Sep 2020 03:08 PM PDT

My aunt has asked me to take her feeder goldfish for the winter as she doesn't have a tank for it inside, I guess. I have a 20 gallon long tank that I haven't set up yet and am going to keep this little dude for the winter. She said he's about 3 inches long, so I hope that's enough? Neither of us have any other options, so unfortunately that's what we have to work with.

Am I correct in understanding that they do not need heaters, but do require filtration?

What's the best, cheapest option for a 20 gallon long filter? I was hoping sponge?

Substrate is not necessary, correct?

I have some random decorations I no longer use that I think I can put in there for him.

If I need to know anything else, please let me know! Thanks in advance!

Sincerely

A betta owner with no real knowledge of goldfish.

Matte Black or Frosted White?

Which background film would enhance colors/contrast best on the backside of my 55 gallon long veiltail tank? It's an Iwagumi scape with black seiryu stone, various epiphyte plants, and white quartz sand.

Question about ich

Posted: 27 Sep 2020 10:16 AM PDT

Hi everyone. My black moor has some white spots on it and I think it might be ich. Difficult to see therefore I couldn't get a photo (in a pond) however the spots are only in one area around the gills only on one side not scattered all over. Should I be worried?

Filtration preferences

Posted: 27 Sep 2020 11:07 AM PDT

Hi all, I eventually want to get two fancy goldfish at some point but there's so many options it's a little overwhelming. From what I've been reading I'd need at least a 40-50 gallon (probably all I'd have room for), but what is everyone's preferred choice for filtration that's effective, easy, and somewhat quiet?? Is HoB really the best bet? There kinda clunky imo but if that's what would keep a goldfish tank cleanest then so be it. (I know other manual cleaning and water changes are involved...I just mean for filtration) I've never tried sponge filters but they seem neat while aerating the water as well. Are these effective in your experience, or can they not handle goldfish waste? I also don't understand how to clean HoBs..I know I'm supposed to rinse off filter/sponges in old tank water, but those white cartridges have to be replaced at some point right? But then you might lose all your bacteria.. Like I said, I've read this wiki and more many times and these are the questions I can't seem to find clarity on. I guess I'm short..what's a good starter setup for two fancies? Appreciate any info/advice

Update on Greeny (and a few more questions)

Update on Greeny (and a few more questions)

Hello again r/Goldfish! I'm back with an update on Greeny (and a few more questions, if anyone can help out).

First, I want to say thank you so much to all of you who chimed in on my first post, especially u/Im-A-Beardie. Greeny has had a major housing upgrade, and seems to be enjoying tank life. I've also added a filter, changed his food from flakes to some higher-quality pellets, and started conditioning and monitoring his water.

However, the black marks on the edges of his fins have continued to spread (see photos). I thought they were ammonia burns, but now I'm not so sure... does anyone have any other guesses?

His water also gets cloudy very quickly, and I'm not sure what to do about that (this is my first experience with tank life too). Any advice would be welcome. Right now I'm just using a siphon to do 50% water changes once a week and conditioning with Seachem Prime.

Thank you in advance for your time and thoughts!
