Finally upgraded Normy's tank! He went from a 3 gal, to a 10 gal, to a 65 gal!! Woohoo! Now we gotta get him some friends.

My goldfish of 4 years swimming away, I wish him luck in his future endeavors. My buddy was by my side for a long time and I felt at a certain point I wasn’t able to give him the care he deserved. He is now in a goldfish pond, that I made sure he could live in, everyone say bye to Dr. Junkentein!

Came back a week later to buy the only other orange fantail with black markings. They seem happy to be reunited :)

Does goldfish requires water mineralization (done by those small balls)? If I add cuttlebone or eggshell for my rabbit snail will it alter water pH and kill the gold fish

My Black Moor (and only him) is always going to the top and gulping air. They do not eat from the top, he swims fine, the water tested absolutely fine with a ph of 7.2, they eat repashy, brine shrimp, and blanched spinach. He has had small signs of SBD on occasion but it usually goes away quickly.

Looking for some advice for a probable case of skin flukes until the meds arrive (IF they arrive :/)

Posted: 26 Sep 2020 11:18 AM PDT

My 3 fancies are each exhibiting very occasional signs of what I assume is skin flukes. They've been showing signs (flashing off of the heater) since a few days after I got them (a month ago) but then I noticed 5-6 ich spots on each of their tail fins, so I heated up the tank and it went away within days. Kept the heat up for 2 weeks though with lots of water changes/vacuuming. Even though the ich had gone, I assumed the flukes were still present so I ordered PraziPro from the US - but who knows if/when that will arrive (I'm in Canada).

Since then they've still been very occasionally flashing but otherwise behaving completely normally. Very active, foraging, voracious appetites, etc.

On Monday I noticed Cricket (black moor, ~1.25 inches) flashing off of the heater and substrate more frequently, and tiny pin holes in his dorsal and right caudal fin. At that point I added salt (1 tbsp/gal). Later that day I actually saw him catch his tail fin on a plant stem and tear the hole into a split :( I've been doing very frequent water changes and his fins aren't showing any signs of deteriorating so hopefully he'll heal up with the salt. He's been flashing much less since the salt was added, so hopefully his extra slime is helping.

Boo (the blue oranda formally known as Scarper, ~2 inches) is coping the best with only very occasional flashing off of the heater.

But then today I noticed Sushi (calico fantail, ~1.5 inches) have an 'episode' of very quickly and erratically darting around, flashing off of the substrate. Lasted probably 5-10 seconds but I haven't seen any of them do that before and it was super worrying. I haven't seen her exhibiting any other symptoms other than again, infrequent flashing off of the heater (no idea why it's always the heater they flash off - its the smoothest object in the tank lol) and she is now happily going about her business foraging away.

Just looking for a bit of advice - firstly, is this definitely flukes? If so, anything else I can do other than the salt and frequent water changes until the prazi gets here? If not, any idea what it could be? Any other meds I should try to smuggle in lol? Thanks in advance!

Parameters etc:

Tank - 45 gal, Fluval C4 HOB + a sponge filter, lots of aeration, sand substrate, lightly planted

Ammonia - 0ppm

Nitrite - 0ppm

Nitrate - 5ppm

pH - 7.6

KH - 70ppm

GH - 140ppm

Salinity - 1 tbsp/gal (since 9/21 - normally 0)

Temperature - 25 C

Food - combination of Northfin pellets, Repashy and bloodworms/brine shrimp

My fish has Pop Eye and what seems like Ulcers... She lives in a 5000L pond, water parematers are fine (more in comments)... This makes no sense? Are my other fish at risk of getting ill as well? Please help me figure out what went wrong... I don't want to lose Tangerine.

Black spots on new fish?

Posted: 26 Sep 2020 08:15 AM PDT

I bought a Oranda goldfish from pet smart over a month ago now because he looked very unwell and seemed to have ammonia burns. He's been in a quarantine tank and I've noticed huge black patches grow all over him. I heard this could be a sign of healing from ammonia burns. Would I be able to put him into my main 125G tank with my other fish or are the black patches worrisome?
