| Posted: 23 Sep 2020 03:32 AM PDT Hey axolotl peeps After some research and a few trips to the local aquarium store I finally bought my little fella about 2 months ago. I've noticed that his tail is constantly floating, specially after feeding time. I believe it's a mix of either constipation and gases (?) He's been eating bloodworms and sinking pellets (I honestly want to stop feeding him pellets but I haven't found earth worms in my town yet). Some websites say this is normal in young axolotls, some say it's not a good sign. Has anyone been through this? How did you fix it? Ps: water quality has been pretty good, I do weekly tests on Ph, No2, No3 and Cl2 Edit: added a link with his picture [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 22 Sep 2020 06:20 PM PDT Hey all, I've got an axolotl that I've had since January. He's currently in a split 40b with two presumed females on the other side of the divider, both of whom are plump and happy. Which is important to note, because this little guy is not. He's been quite skinny for a few months now. Regularly refuses earthworms, but will eat pellets - except he has begun turning his nose up at those too. Usually I can get him to eat either a small worm or a pellet per day, but sometimes he spits them back up, undigested, hours later. I've been really trying to get him to put on some weight, but nothing's worked. Water quality seems fine - they have 2 large sponge filters and a canister filter, and I do regular weekly water changes. His gills are smaller than the girls', but not to the point where I'm concerned that the water is a problem. I just think he's failing to thrive, for some reason. Any suggestions as to how I might be able to get him to chunk up? At what point would you consider a starving axolotl a lost cause and consider euthanasia? Seeing him like this makes me so sad. Thanks in advance for any advice! [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 22 Sep 2020 08:16 PM PDT Anyone know how to get rid of diatoms in a heavily planted axolotl tank? It's been about a month and it's getting kind of annoying, the tanks about 3 months old and water parameters a great, thanks. [link] [comments] | ||

| Found: Random object in Axolotl tank? Posted: 22 Sep 2020 02:29 PM PDT Okay so it's not random it's a little stone, maybe the size of a penny. I took a picture but just learned I could choose either text or picture to post so I chose text. Anyways, I go to suck up my axolotl's poop and to my surprise find a smooth stone! It's somewhat big compared to her head and I have no idea where it came from. I use aquarium sand as the base in my tank and no gravel or rocks of any kind. It's been established for a while and I did a big clean a little bit ago, where I rinsed the sand and so I KNOW there weren't any other objects in there. My husband and I would never give her a rock to accidentally inhale, and it does not match the one fake shelter bought from the pet store (so I don't think it fell off of anything). Am I crazy to think that somehow this materialized itself? I can't find anything online to help, and I know it doesn't make sense but I don't know where else it came from. Also in tank: some small live plants, a piece of mopane wood, a couple pet store pieces, and some guppies for live food. What the heck. Any input is appreciated! [link] [comments] | ||
