I wanted to make sure I got all the angles haha but I’ve actually noticed that she’s not coming up for air as much as she usually does and I can’t really tell if her gills are actually coming back? I might be going crazy?

Hey guys I'm new to reddit, I have filter floss around the intake of my filter and today I watched my axolotl eat a small piece of it, I quickly pulled him away from it but he still swallowed some, I'm just wondering if he's going to be able to pass the filter floss without problems, thanks!

My teenage daughter and niece are very interested in getting axolotls as pets.. I however had never heard of or seen these little guys before. What's required as far as getting started? Do they grow much? Do you have to move up tank sizes? Can 2 of them live together? If so what are the specifics for that? What do they eat? Anything else that you think that I should know or that you wish you had known prior to acquiring your pet?

Oh Yea! Can't forget to ask.... Chain pet store vs. Local Store/Breeder Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out.

Planted tank/ light question

Hi! I was wanting to add some natural greenery to my axolotls tank, however I know they like darkness. He has a big hide he likes and the light I got wont cover the whole tank, but it's not dimmable and I'm worried it'll upset him.

First, I wanted to check if my options seemed good. Frogbits, water lettuce, anubis, possibly java fern, and xl most balls.

Second, will the light be ok? Are there any suggestions as to how I could dim it or lessen the light going through without affecting the plants getting the proper rays? Thank you!

He is in a big ole 55 gallon and the light is about 20 inches long. Its a bare bottom tank.

Any advice...I woke up this morning and noticed his gills are bending back which I know is a sign of sickness, he's also just been really inactive, he's still eating well. We've been struggling with ammonia but have done water changes every 1 to 2 days and it's still reading between 4 and 8 ppm

Chiller vs. fan? How important is the temperature?

Bare tank vs. sand? Is a bare tank stressful for axolotls?
