Do I have to quarentine axolotals from my terrestrial reptiles.

Title pretty much says it all. I have a leopard gecko and a blue tongue. Can they catch anything from a diseased axolotl if their in the same room?

sick axolotl

Posted: 08 Sep 2020 07:27 AM PDT

so my year of school started again today i study animal caretaking and love everything about aquariums but i suppose i'm not the only one on this sub, well let's just say i walked in this morning to a panicked teacher who doesn't know a lot about fishkeeping or aquariums in general, but before summerbreak me and some old teachers were re-setting up a 500L fish tank that we drained a couple days prior. we added a new substarte filtersand and new rocks, wood and plants. it was able to cycle a full 6 weeks throughout summer break and it currently houses 2 axolotls which one of them has lost it's gills, and what has been told me plays dead every now and then?! but as i stated before i walked in on a panicked teacher who asked me for help since i'm the only one in my class who knows something about aquariums and has them at home aswell. they also told me that there is lead in the aquarium water so i gave her the advice to buy some better testkits than we currently have at my school and to atleast do a 50% waterchange twice a week. and to put the sick axolotl in a spare 50L quarantine tank and keep an eye on him for now on. but is there anything i can do against the high levels of lead except the waterchanges or would anyone think it might be something different?

How much/often do you feed your adult axolotls?

Posted: 08 Sep 2020 07:18 AM PDT

I feed my axolotl 1/3 of a nightcrawler every day. Is that too much? He isn't overweight from what I can see, but the previous owner only fed him 5 or so tiny pellets a day for his entire life so I think anything is better than that.

He left little tracks in the sand

My freind runs a small axolotl rescue out of her home and she just got this guy in today. The reason I'm posting is coz this is what happens when axolotls are only fed bloodworms, this is a reminder that diets coz huge impacts on your pets health and the proper research is vital.

Is a 20gal tank too small for two axies? I love my boy Mugwhump and don't want to stress him!

Does this lotl look like it’s morphing? I went into my local pet shop and to my surprise they had a lotl! I own a large older female wild type and something looks strange about this little guy but I can’t put my eye on it. I can’t house another... but I kinda want to!

URGENT Putting axolotl in declorinated water, am I doing it right?

Posted: 07 Sep 2020 03:40 PM PDT

He hasn't moved much for the past few weeks and has some red patches on his body.

I'm putting him in declorinated water with no filter or sand etc and will ring the vet tomorrow.

Am I doing this right? Should I be doing this?

EDIT: Am I okay to move him to the tub with a net?

Question about adding a second axolotl to a tank....

Posted: 07 Sep 2020 06:40 PM PDT

At what size/age should I feel comfortable with adding a young axolotl to the same tank as an adult? I'm not going to add a baby to the tank right away but I've only ever had one axolotl and looking for any advice ....thanks
