One of my nerite snails likes laying her eggs on the mineral balls. Feel kinda bad they'll never hatch, but at least they're easy to remove this way.

Wondering about the impact of Ramshorn Snail in my tank

Hello, I got some Nerite Snails before but I don't really find them interesting since they seem to work on night only so I can't see their glorious munching mouths doing the works. I've returned them and...I've shifted my attention to Ramshorn Snails. I've done quite a bit of research but I'm still concerned. It'll be very helpful even if you just answer some of them!

The snails I've gotten :

These are Ramshorn right? They are really small...like 1cm width for their shell.

1) So I've Java Fern, Java Moss, Amazon Sword, hydrocotyle tripartita, brazilian pennywort, water lettuce, and what seems to be pearl weed or Monte Carlos. Do Ramshorn Snails eat them?

2) How much do I have to feed them without causing an overpopulation or making them starved enough to eat my plants? I feed my betta pellet by pellet so there's no wasted food and I always trim the leaves that don't look healthy. Let's say I put 5 of them inside...how much should I feed? I've algae wafer and cucumber (prefer to feed cucumber).

3) My betta is quite aggressive...seeing that he'll get every chance he can to nip the antenna of nerite snail before, though never successful, so I'm wondering if he'll eat the baby snails? If he does, will there be any danger for him, like choking himself? And let's say if it's safe for him to consume the baby snail, is it alright to leave the empty snail shell in the tank?

I think these are the main concerns : is my plant safe, how much to feed to avoid overpopulation and keep my plant safe, is baby snail safe for betta to be consumed.

Thanks!

Rabbit snail eating itself out of house and home

Posted: 29 Sep 2020 09:08 AM PDT

I picked up a yellow spotted rabbit snail from my local Petco this past weekend (it was in a tank full of lava snails that were labeled "assorted rabbit snails". The snail was inactive for the first couple of days after getting it, but it's woken up and started to eat everything in sight as if it's training for a Coney Island 4th of July hotdog eating contest. In the past 24 hours the 1" long snail has eaten 3/4 of a Hikari algae wafer, two florets of broccoli about 3/4 the size of it's shell, about a 1" square patch of Glossostigma ground cover down to mush, and some loose betta pellets that were sitting on top of the substrate. I half expected to find that it had gotten into my refrigerator over night. Trying to figure out what a normal eating/feeding pattern should look like for this guy/gal- any advice from other rabbit keepers?

How to tell your snail is dead?

Posted: 29 Sep 2020 09:48 PM PDT

I know it's kinda sad post, but my mystery snail seaweed, i noticed he was in the same position for 24 hours a couple days ago, and looked at him and noticed he was slightly retracted into his shell. It wasn't too far, I could still see his trapped door but you could see about a centimeter of his inner shell. I moved him into a hospital tank by himself, and for the past two days after moving him he hasn't moved an inch. I know they smell like ammonia when they die, but I don't know what ammonia smells like. He has a slight smell to him, but I don't know if that's the water smell bc I've dosed with prime everyday since my hospital tank isn't fully cycled. I also don't want to just bury him if he's still alive. Any help would be much appreciated (:

rabbit snail in 5 gallon ????

Posted: 29 Sep 2020 04:33 PM PDT

i just ordered a rabbit snail from eBay and I have asked the shop owner if it was okay for a rabbit snail to be in a 5 gallon tank with a bamboo and cherry shrimp, nerite snail, and a betta. they said yes, but im still worried that maybe it wont be big enough for everyone? btw i don't have my betta yet just in case it might be too much for my snail and that I would need to upgrade to a 10gallon.

please someone let me know!!!! I really want this snail because they are beautiful

Tank cleaning

Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:12 AM PDT

So, i have a dozen or so assassin snails living in the substrate... i feel absolutely uncomfortable vacuuming with knowing they are in there, some are so small they get sucked into the filter, which i have had to take apart, rescue them, add a prefilter sponge to the system to prevent them getting sucked up again.

I was just wondering how others on here clean their tanks substrate with snails? There doesn't seem too much to clean in the substrate as these assassins seem to like to eat everything down there, but ive seen some of my plecos waste starting to accumulate as he gets bigger, and i dont know the safest way to clean that without possibly harming a snail.

Any advice is welcome and absolutely appreciated. Especially when dealing with the young snails. Or do i just wait till they are bigger, and carefully pick times to vacuum when they are mostly out of the substrate during feeding times?
