What’s your favorite substrate for mystery snails?

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 06:23 PM PDT

My boy literally drop a huge load on him

Meet Poppy! She's in a tank with Pansy the betta.

What color is this mystery snail? He’s well over a month old and a bit smaller than all of his clutch siblings. None of the adults or any of his siblings share his color and he has no stripes. Please let me know what color he might be. Thank you.

How do you feed snails?

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 06:03 AM PDT

I want to get a snail at some point but I'm not sure how you're supposed to feed them. Can they smell it if you drop the food in and go to the food? Or do you place it as close to the snail as possible and hope that the snail comes to eat it? Will my betta eat the snail food before the snail does?

Can anyone help me figure out what kind of snail this is? She’s MASSIVE. The size of 2 of my fists. Here she is with my extra chunky goldfish for scale. LFS has her labeled as “apple snail” but I’ve never seen an apple snail this size!!

Blanching questions

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 10:14 AM PDT

I'd like to give my snails some blanched cucumber or zucchini slices, but I have some questions:

How long do blanched veggies keep? I don't want to give them too much, so I would be putting one slice a week into the tank. I don't want to make too many slices and end up having to throw them away before using them, either.

How much do you blanch at a time? I'm not sure I want to use all that water if I'm going to be boiling just one or two slices, it seems like a waste - in that case, I'd rather find something I could feed to them raw.

My snails are mainly pond snails. If it matters, they share their tank with a crowntail betta.

Anyone else have Marbled Limpets? I’d love any tips! Have one of these guys being shipped to me! I bought 1 B-grade, but aquatic arts usually send more than ordered. Should be in tomorrow!

mystery snail won’t stop floating

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 12:59 PM PDT

help! i've had my mystery snail for about two weeks now. sadly, he and my betta just didn't get along and she kept nipping at him. he started floating, which scared me, but would come back down after quarantining him for a few hours. well now he's got his own solo tank but he won't stop floating! i'm sure he's alive (he's been moving in and out of his shell) but he's still just bobbing at the top of the water. should i be worried? and is there anything i can do to help him sink back to the bottom?
