- My newest Koi!
- Koi pond update: walls are up, plumbing for rhino drain is in. Working on setting the rebar for the bottom today and having concrete floor and fill in sides Tues.
- [UPDATE] For those who saw my last post, this is a major improvement of water quality. Definitely needed a new pump and filtration system. Still a work in progress but it’s setup! More info in comments.

Newbie Question About Wintering Indoors Posted: 06 Sep 2020 10:49 AM PDT Hi everyone! I recently bought a house with a small established pond. There were koi in it last summer, but between a heron eating them and not properly setting it up for last winter, they didn't survive. I have fairly extensive experience with aquariums, both fresh and marine, but none with ponds. I purchased 2 koi a couple months ago. They are in the pond with goldfish and doing really well. I would like to bring them inside for winter because the pond isn't deep enough. Right now, they are about 5 inches long. I am researching what I will need for them. If I get a really good filter, could I use a 300 gallon stock tank like this? https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rubbermaid-structural-foam-stock-tanks-300-gal-capacity?cm_vc=-10005# I know I need netting over it for jumpers. Thank you! [link] [comments] | ||
Posted: 06 Sep 2020 05:38 AM PDT Hello, after keeping and rearing koi for several years the inevitable has happened and I now have signs of carp pox, as they're showing it's now too late and they all have have it... but .. does anyone know of ways to boost a koi and help them to keep the infections at bay ? Since the outbreak I now mix two types of 'health' pellet (to boost immune system) with their protein (35%) food. I am also going to treat the pond for parasites although none are showing just in case there is one and it might be weakening them. Finally, I have added monillorite koi clay too to ensure their is sufficient minerals to support immune activity ? Any other actions I can take apart from the above ? [link] [comments] |
