Posted: 09 Jul 2020 12:30 AM PDT Hey fellow hobby people, I'm a newbie in the fish world. My girlfriends genius boss both 3 common goldfish in a freaking bowl 3 years ago, and up until the quarantine they've lived in their office, but since the office shut down for a few months we had to take them home. By this point one had died, and one had turned completely white/discolored. So the other two came home in a 10 gallon aquarium. Now this have to be the most hardcore pair of goldfish, because they survived a once a month 100% water change, with a cheap internal filter containing nothing but a tiny sponge and carbon.(my girlfriend didn't really know what she was doing, but there is not an awful amount of reading materia in buglarian on the web). Anyway, we both another goldie, this time a tiny telescope. At this point i started reading up, but not fast enough unfortunately and we lost the other two commons(the 10 gallon cracked during one of the cleanings and we both a 15 gallon one, in which me put maybe 50% of the water back, and with this I think signing their death sentence, by returning the ammonia that was in it). This was all around 2 months ago, I managed to cycle the aquarium, add media, start testing the water, and doing weekly water changes. After I got things under control, I took another telescope, because she was looking very lonely. They were both tiny, probably 2-3 weeks old, and have grown substantially since then, the second and smaller one actually has outgrown the first one. I know the tank is small but we'll get to that in a second. They have been eating a combination of daily Saki-Hikari fancy goldish pellets, and once a week some frozen peas and frozen brime shrimp, and 1 day of fasting. Now I need a few advices please. As I said, I know the tank is too small for the adults, and this is why I'm in the process of getting a 30 gallon one. And it will be only for them, and the 3 snails :) Is it going to be enough for them? Second issue is I'm moving. And the thought of moving the fish has been giving me anxiety for a a couple of weeks now lol. I have equipped myself with a 7 gallon bucket, battery powered air pump and I hope enough knowledge. I know I have to keep everything wet(media, decor, filter) and do everything as fast as possible, so I minimize the loss of beneficial bacteria. The tank until now had medium sized gravel, but it's been a pain in the ass for cleaning and trapping food waste. I want to switch to sand( I have both 1-3 mm one) because it's easier to clean, and promotes foraging for the fish. The plan for now is to do the switch when I'm moving and switching tanks, is this a good idea or it will be too much stress for the fish and bacteria? Second sub question lol. I have chosen Fluval's U3 for the 30 gallon, is it going to be better if i add the little media I have from my current filter with the media in the new one, or let them both run on the tank for a few weeks? Issue number three. It gets quite hot in Bulgaria, during the summer. Often above 30'C, and the temperature in the tank gets up to 26-27, I have been trying to handle it with floating frozen water bottles, but it only lowers is it 1-2 degrees for a short period. How worried should i be? Because I know they're coldwater fish, and like 19-22C. Issue number something. The new tank is coming without a light, this is the part i tell you the tank is not planted, and for now im not planning on planting live plants. And is 15 inches deep. So from what i read i can probably get away with LED. What i'm having problems with is understanding how powerful and big should it be? And the aquarium is coming with a glass top. I think this is it for now, I'm sorry for the long post, any help would be greatly appreciated. I will post a picture of them in the comments. :)) PS Sorry for any mistakes, but as you can tell english is not my first language. [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:59 AM PDT Hi everyone! I'm in the middle of trying to find the perfect tank for 2 fancy goldfish. I have a 32 gallon set up but after researching I've decided I'm going to empty it and return it and buy something larger. I've found a 55 gallon long tank online: https://www.aquariumdepot.ca/aqueon-standard-rectangular-aquarium-black-trim-55-gal.html Do you think this would be suitable for 2 fancies? Also, do you know where I can find stands that would hold a 55 gallon tank + sand + water. Thanks everyone! [link] [comments]
I feel like I'm doing something wrong Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:32 PM PDT So recently I got 4 comet goldfish and put them into an about 6 gal. tank with a few decorative plants and coral. I usually feed them about a small handful of flakes twice a day (4:00PM - 10:00PM) Am I doing anything wrong? I have researched and have found vague details about feeding. I had a goldfish die on me a few days ago and wondering if I should get one to replace him. Posted: 08 Jul 2020 04:04 PM PDT About 11 years ago my kids won 3 goldfish at a carnival game. We are now down to one goldfish and a pleco sucker fish. My first fish died about a year ago and the 2nd one died just a few days ago. My remaining goldfish looks lonely. The tank is 55 gallons and I use basic tap water. Should I simply not get another fish and let these 2 be because they have not had any new fish in the tank in a long time. Or should I consider adding in a fish or two? [link] [comments]

Any tips for helping an unwell goldfish (I think with swimbladder disease?) Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:44 AM PDT Hi, I have a fantail goldfish who is around 10 years old. Over the past few days she has started spending a lot of time on the floor, wedged sideways or upside down between the back wall of the tank and an ornament. When there's food she will come out and swim around just fine, but it seems like she is struggling to keep herself upright - so I'm thinking she might have problems with her swimbladder, and possibly she is wedging herself in that position so she can rest? Currently I'm just treating it as I normally have with swimbladder problems in the past, by not feeding as much and only feeding peas. I'm worried though, and I'm wondering if anyone has advice for anything more I could do to help as it feels bad just waiting around. I have done a water test and it all looked fine, so I can't think of what else to do. Thank you for any help :) [link] [comments] |
