First attempt at painting goldfish...

I have a blind fantail and was wondering if putting another one with him would be safe? (I’d monitor them while they eat)

i started giving my goldfish some lettuce to eat along with their normal food but they seem to really eat the hell out of the lettuce, is it okay that i keep giving them a full leaf of lettuce everyday or is it bad for them to eat too much

Pyke's Glow up

Pyke got delivered to us in a very sorry state, he had ich, SBD, fin rot and septicemia.
Can't honestly believe I got my first fancy through all of that ! Now look at him ~
He's such a cutie !

Help! He is healing up nicely from Ammonia Burns. He has always looked crooked when resting but he now does this crooked posture nearly all the time... Is he constipated? How can I help my litte fella?

Changing food type

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 02:19 PM PDT

Hi,

I've changed my goldfish's food to sinking pellets rather than flakes but they don't seem to understand that they should eat the sinking pellets....they seem to go for it as it's sinking but once it hits the bottom they ignore it. I think they're being fussy and I don't know how to convince them to eat it. All thoughts & ideas are welcome :)

Can I put pond plants in my fancy goldfish aquarium?

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 04:16 AM PDT

I've a clump common/wild iris in the garden pond and it's thrown out a rooted node that's floating around - my fancy goldfish seem to be spawning and it'd give them a different scape than just rocks.

The pond is stocked with common goldfish, so I can assume the iris is not harmful - what do you think?

Greedy goldfish

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:59 AM PDT

Hello!

I have a newish setup with 4 goldfish and 2 pepper Cory.

The 2 corys are the newest addition and I've noticed that whenever I drop a pellet in for them the goldfish try and eat the pellet too. The corys try and give as good as they get however they are pretty small!! Any advice on how to ensure they are getting enough food?

Fantail Caligo Goldfish Turned Orange In Seconds?

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 06:15 AM PDT

Hi Reddit. I own a Caligo Fantail goldfish and a common. I wanted to clean the aquarium so I moved them to a bowl until I'm done with the cleaning. After 30min. I used the net to move them back and I noticed that the fantail's black spots, almost half of the fish, turned orange. When I moved it back to the aquarium which I had changed the water, turned again back to its normal color. The transition happened 5min. after I put it in. What caused that? It's the first time it happens

To medicate or not to medicate?

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:04 AM PDT

Hi all,

TL;DR - if you suspect your fish is sick, do you medicate early to try and get ahead of it, or do you "wait and see" (potentially combined with daily water changes)?

A couple of days ago I noticed one of my gold fish had a red circle-shaped mark right in the middle of her tail fin. I was worried it could be because of ammonia/nitrite, or even fin rot. I've been doing daily water changes and the mark seemed to heal! So I started to assume that maybe the other fish in the tank nipped her or something (the other fish has been fine this whole time).

She is eating and swimming perfectly fine, but this morning i noticed two tiny pale brown dots near where the red mark was (almost like freckles). I didn't do a water change yesterday because I was tired in the evening, and I was planning to do one first thing this morning - that's when I saw the brown dots.

I tested the water levels when i saw the brown freckles and its ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate somewhere between 0 and 20 (i only have sticks to measure nitrite and nitrate unfortunately, but i have an API kit for ammonia. i moved country and am finding it hard to get API water tests)

I have some epsom salt on hand and I'm considering giving her an epsom salt dip, but i don't want to stress her out or even harm her :( Salt dip, or keep up with daily water changes?

Thanks all

PS I am finding it difficult to get a good picture of her tail because she swims pretty fast!
