Oh lawd he coming

Pig swears he's never been fed before. The transfer to the 75g was a success! The different light doesn't enhance his colors, but he's enjoying all the space.

You can never have too many tanks! Just finished building the stand and got the tank on last night. It had been on the ground cycling for weeks. I am still in need of doors but that will come soon! 55 gallon goldfish tank~

Are my Black Moor Goldfish fighting? (The lighter one keeps coming at the darker one)

Pakku likes to sleep by jamming himself face down in this swordplant. I had just turned the light on.

Beginner advice? Decor, filter, water conditioning?

Posted: 06 Jul 2020 11:23 PM PDT

I just ordered a 40 gal tank that I'd like to put two fancy goldfish in. I've had fancy golfish in the family but never owned them personally, so any advice is appreciated. I'm getting all the items gradually and when I have all the necessities, then I'll start with the water. (Cylcling water is also a bit confusing, so any advice of that is especially appreciated, particularly water conditioning kits that might be helpful)

I was planning on getting a Tetra Whisper Power Filter for 30-60 gallons, any thoughts on this particular filter? I want something that will hopefully be simple, that I can just get replacement cartridges for.

And I'm a major decorator (I like to decorate my rats' cage for holidays and seasons too), but I know I shouldn't crowd the tank. What's the advice for fun decorations that are goldfish approved?

Only other plans so far are: I want to do a sand substrate, and might get a snail to go with the fish, but I'm mainly interested in the fancy bois.

Tank footprint? New Tank..

Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:34 PM PDT

Hello all. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I was just curious as to what the consensus is around tank footprint. I have previously kept fancies in a 75g that had plenty of space. However, I've recently moved out and into a new apartment where the only real space for an aquarium is a small nook in my living room pictured here:

https://imgur.com/a/TQNA9SX

The tank is a 37 gallon. Which somewhat fits the gallon per fish rule. However the dimensions are 30 in L x 12 in W x 22 in H. I'm going to begin cycling it tomorrow after the stand is delivered.

I wanted to keep a couple fancies in here. But my concern is it isn't a large enough footprint.

Any thoughts?

Filtration ideas for sand bottom 37gal bowfront (how to clean up the muck without too much current)

Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:36 PM PDT

Currently setting up a sand bottom 37gal bow front which will be home to 2 small fan tails. The tank was bought used and the previous owner had upsized the PetCo HOB filter to a gurgling churning thunderous Penguin bio wheel. I'd like something quieter. Even at the lowest intake setting, the water is coming out at a furious flow. (Tank is just water, cycling while I ponder heating cable for the sand substrate...)

What are some guidelines for water turnover in a tall tank that will have a heavier bio load? And keeping the water current down would be nice too.

I'm thinking about two smaller HOB filters, and extend the intake to be near the bottom of the tank, hopefully improving circulation.

(For sand bottom tanks I used to always put a piece of black pantyhose over the intake and secure with a black silicon ponytail band, works great to keep sand out of the filter...)

Thanks!

New goldfish owner here! I noticed the fancy goldfish I got from Petsmart doesn’t open its back fin all the way on one side. I also noticed a small black spot on the inner back fin. Is this fin rot? Any advice for helping this little buddy live his best life would be greatly appreciated! TIA

I found a tonne of eggs in my pond and decided to put them in a tank for observation. Is there anything I can do to improve hatching success rate?

Goldfish with a sudden red edge on the tail and gasping for air

Goldfish with a sudden red edge on the tail and gasping for air

I recently got a new goldfish. and he has been treated for ich which made his tail very red and bloodshot but that went away, today after i installed a new bubble system. his tail got very red in a few hours, not sure if it is caused by the bubble bar, he swims up to the surface and goes vertical and gasps for air.

Any advice on caring for an elderly fish?

Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:01 PM PDT

One of my 3 goldfish is getting old and isn't quite as active as he has been. I've had him for about 10 years but I have no idea how old he was when we rescued him. He has lost all of his color over the last year and is having swim bladder issues. He shares his tank with his 2 brothers who are around 3.

My old goldfish has learnt to pop the water loudly in the corner of the tank when she wants food, which is all the time. Anyway to train her to stop?

Posted: 06 Jul 2020 03:58 PM PDT

Sounds mad, but I've accidentally taught her this and it's constant.. pop pop pop all the time. Obviously the times I do feed her sort of coincide with when she's popping so she hasn't unlearnt it.. anyway to stop her? Or does anyone else have weird experiences of goldfish learning 'tricks' like this?

Nitrate issue?

Posted: 06 Jul 2020 12:11 PM PDT

Cleaning Gilbert's main tank atm and noticed some red dots on her top fin this is the second time this has happened. It went away last time after cleaning her main tank(having to wait on filters). I want to know what it is I think it's red spot disease but I'm not sure.

Posted: 06 Jul 2020 02:30 AM PDT

Swinging at top, started to gain black coloring. Nitrates and nitrites zero. Ammonia zero. He is not eating and chasing food. Seems lethargic. I am thinking swim bladder issue. Black coloring started a week ago and behavior change 3 days ago. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
