- I see you Fingers
- His first meal in his new “big boy” tank
- Invisible nitrates?
- Do Animations Count?
- New buyer with questions
- Atleast fingers got his big boy substrate today and some new plants to explore
- Cubeworld Axolotl
- need help!
- So I feel absolutely horrible, I let the siphon hose get to close to Fingers tail and it took a chunk. It happened so fast . He still ate dinner and is visually in slight discomfort is there anything I can do to ease his pain right now? I've already added tannin to help prevent infection.
- Where to buy nightcrawlers/earthworms in Toronto atm?
- God left these creatures unfinished
- Could anyone ID this substance for me? I’ve had fungus before but this isn’t the same as last time. I have two lotls in the same tank with a divider but it’s only on one half of the tank and there isn’t a single speck of it on her. I would appreciate any input!

Posted: 02 Jul 2020 11:39 AM PDT Hello everyone! Someone dropped some axolotls off at the SPCA (previous owner had to move) and the SPCA did not have the equipment/capacity to take care of them. I know someone who works there and ended up taking one. I knew nothing about aquariums or axolotl care (long time fan though P:), but I threw myself into research and have been doing my best to make Griselda's life as good as possible. However, not knowing anything about aquariums I ended up with an uncycled tank and no access to seeded media. I have been cycling the tank with Griselda inside. I know that this is NOT GOOD, and if I was just getting a lotl on my own I certainly would have put in the effort to get it set up before hand, but it wasn't an option . I have been extremely diligent in making sure the water is as safe as possible during the transition (having no work right now and never leaving the house has made this possible haha.) Daily water changes, testing the water morning and night, and dosing with prime when necessary. Now it appears I am finally at the end of the road with cycling and Griselda seems quite healthy- she never lost her appetite, she is pooping regularly, gills are fluffy and uncurled, tail is straight. Today my nitrites dropped to zero on their own (tested last night and they were at .5 ppm, dosed with seachem but kept the water in.) My ammonia is also at zero. The only problem is my nitrate readings are still at zero. I have two theories here: 1) my nitrate test (api freshwater master kit) is bunk OR 2) I have a number of plants in my tank as well as what I believe to be a brown algae colony (clear fluffy looking stuff absolutely coating a piece of driftwood in the tank) and THEY are consuming the excess nitrate. Does anyone know if this is possible? I am assuming the algae couldn't grow without nitrates but I'm nervous I may have somehow crashed the tank (can't think of any way this could have happened, I condition my water diligently)? My tank can get up to 71 degrees F during the day (I have been trying to keep it lower without running the AC all the time but consistency is tricky) and down to 64 at night. PH is at 7.4. Tank is kept in a dark room with only a little sunlight, thought I do have an aquasky which I keep on during the day to give the plants a boost. Please help! [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Jul 2020 06:11 AM PDT I've been looking into getting Axolotls. I was thinking about getting two females one dirty leucistic and one copper (if available). I have space for a 25/30 Gallon tank. I haven't owned fish before but I am good at taking care of pets. I have a few questions if you don't mind asking: •have I got enough space •can I have two females •how hard are they to get hold of (London,UK) •how often do I need to change the water •is it hard to find their food •will it bother them if they get little sunlight •if I have my neon light sign on will that bother them? Please get back to me with any tips or advice you have too [link] [comments]

Where to buy nightcrawlers/earthworms in Toronto atm? Posted: 02 Jul 2020 12:05 AM PDT Hey so I am located in Toronto, Ontario. I usually would buy my worms from Big Al's or a PetSmart but as of late, both places quality in nightcrawlers have been really bad. Recently I bought from All Reptiles were I usually buy stuff for my beardie. The nightcrawlers there were amazing and in great shape but unfortunately their supplier is no longer operating due to covid. I really don't know where is a good place to purchase nightcrawlers atm. Anyone in the Toronto area if you could help, that would be great! [link] [comments]

Shocking bacteria? Question I need answered. Posted: 01 Jul 2020 08:43 PM PDT I've read a few things about changing the temperature too fast during a tanks nitrogen cycle, which "shocks" and kills the bacteria in the tank, thus starting the cycle all over. I have a heater in tank to make it cycle faster, but will need to cool the water at the end of my cycle for my Axolotls. How can I avoid "shocking" my bacteria? Is this even a thing? I mean it makes sense but I can't get a straight answer anywhere [link] [comments]
Axy got her back scratched by out python hose, now she has a bit of fungus :( Posted: 01 Jul 2020 08:41 PM PDT She's shown no signs of stress at all - no curling of tail or gills. Three days ago, she swam up into the python hose while my boyfriend did a water change - she's eaten since then but hasn't been as active as usual, and last night I noticed she has a little piece of fuzz on one of her gills :(. Temps run usually 64-44 but never above 68-68.5 Water parameters are 0/0/20-40, but that's actually on the low side for nitrates for these tanks, our tap has high nitrates. We did however have a previous problem with fungus about two months ago, used antibiotics, and had a partial cycle crash we just got under control again about two weeks ago. I added three Indian Almond leaves to the water and we're going to do changes every other day, but I don't know what else to do - I don't want to do antibiotics and screw the cycle in her tank up again! I've tried salt baths and tea baths and that didn't seem to help last time...I just don't know what to do :(. [link] [comments] |
