Had this tank for 13 yrs. 7 different set ups from piranhas and oscars now to Axolotls. 6 months in!

Getting an axolotl soon, any things I should look out for?

Hi friends! I will soon be getting my first lil guy, so I wanted to know if there are any things that are important in caring for an axolotl that you only found out after you got one? I want to be as overprepared as possible, so I can take care of them as best as I can! Any tips welcome :)

So I'm going to get an axolotl and I've done tons of research and know the care needs of the cute little things. But I need to cycle the tank first and right now I'm in the process of cycling. So I added my bactetia starter and an ammonia source. It was all good the first 2 days, there was a tiny bit of nitrate and 0 ammonia and nitrite then the ammonia levels went flyinggg and so where the nitrite levels. So I did a water change hoping it would help but the levels were the same and the nitrate dissapeared. I dont know what to do!!!
