Ah yes, that's the spot.

Since I added shrimps to my tank, all I want to do is sit and watch them!

Last Thursday I added some red cherry shrimp to my community tank, and although they've mostly hidden away in the plants in the tank, I find the visible ones so fascinating! They're such cute little creatures.

I realise this post adds little to the knowledge of the world, but I needed to share!

Amano larvae day 14. For better video I have to turn off the 24/7 light and turn on the lamp light. Performed 20% water change yesterday and though the numbers look to be less but still going. Hopefully I get to post next week as well.

Proof that Amano shrimp will eat anything

Showing a lot of blue already or such a little guy. Haven’t seen them throw wilds in a while. Good line right here.

Does anyone know of a resource with detailed info about scutariella japonica?

Posted: 01 Jun 2020 11:37 PM PDT

I bought shrimp from my lfs a few weeks back and noticed this parasite last night. I have since treated but I'm interested in finding info about the incubation period of eggs and the behavior of these parasites within an aquarium. For example, how long/where they live without a host, etc. I've done a bit of searching and only found anecdotal reports about treatment.

Really hope they start breeding soon! They’re only a week into their new pico tank and we’ve had a bit of a nitrate spike since they arrived. Trying to keep it under control with some Prime and frequent water changes!

Male or female?

Is this a good boy, or a bad boy? (Bought some “Ghosts” at my LFS

I was told this was an Amano but thanks to this subreddit I know it’s a ghost shrimp but can anyone tell me the gender?

I got a bunch of ghost shrimp a while back, and they gave me an Amano in the mix

Treating hydra with ferbendazole in tank with shrimp and snails

Posted: 01 Jun 2020 09:18 PM PDT

I know I need to remove the snails from the tank while I treat it, but when do I put them back in? Several water changes after, or will it go inert in the water after a while? I read that at the recommended dose, it's pretty safe for shrimp, so I'm not super concerned about them.

2 planted tanks being treated:

29 gallon - ember tetras, blue velvet shrimp, nerite snails, other miscellaneous snails

10 gallon - miscellaneous snails (preparing as a tank for CRS)

I'm not sure if this needs to go in another subreddit because this is more snail focused, but I know treating for hydra is common for shrimp tanks.

Super excited that some of the juvenile cherry shrimp I got are finally getting their bright red coloring. Can’t wait until they are all like that

Sounds dumb, but is Fluval Shrimp Granules Food safe for shrimp and/or fish? Food safe for shrimp and betta fish?

Posted: 01 Jun 2020 02:56 PM PDT

I have been feeding my RCS Fluval's shrimp granules for a long time. Back when I had one colony reproducing, they were reproducing in part with eating Fluval's granules among other products in the products.

Considering buying more I went on the Amazon page (https://smile.amazon.com/Fluval-Shrimp-Granules-1-2-Ounces/dp/B004MYMCQA/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=shrimp%2Bfood%2Baquarium&qid=1591047971&sr=8-1&th=1) and noticed some people left negative reviews because the product contains copper oxide and they linked these granules to their shrimp's death and a death of a betta fish.

Clearly certain derivations of copper are toxic to invertebrates, including shrimp. Is copper oxide one of them? I can possibly fathom how it could be with Fluval making these granules.....

On that note, would these pellets potentially be toxic to a betta fish? I am getting one soon for another tank and, out of caution, will definitely not feed shrimp in the betta tank these pellets.

Lastly, does anyone have good shrimp food to recommend that's safe with fish? Would like to expand my shrimps diet. Thank you.

Edit 1: Upon researching other shrimp foods, I see Aquatic Arts (https://smile.amazon.com/Aquatic-Arts-Spirulina-Freshwater-Invertebrates/dp/B00I33OWY6/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=dwarf+shrimp+food&qid=1591049069&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-3) shrimp pellets claim that the product contains trace amounts of copper sulfate because " TRACE AMOUNTS of copper sulfate because copper sulfate is VITAL for blood cell production in invertebrates and will NOT harm your inverts. Used by Aquatic Arts in our own holding tanks and thousands of customers for over 5 years."

I've never heard of this before. Anyone else? I'm also looking at Shrimp King Complete (https://smile.amazon.com/Shrimp-King-Compete-Freshwater-Dwarf/dp/B00L0UBFUI/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=dwarf+shrimp+food&qid=1591049322&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-7) and see no copper sulfate listed.

Edit 2: Interesting info on the topic of trace amount of copper and shrimp. This is all new to me.
