Axolotl just died, found him completely pale with an air bubble on his body in his recovery tub when I went to do his daily water change. :( Rest in peace Donkæ.

How do you keep your aquariums cold?

Posted: 25 Jun 2020 11:47 PM PDT

I live in the Netherlands and we're having a heat wave with a predicted 31 degrees celcius today. I've been trying to keep the aquarium cold by putting closed bottles of ice in the tank and I bought a fan to help cool the water. Nevertheless the water still hits 25 degrees regularly. I don't really know how else I can keep the water cold. any suggestions/help is appreciated!

NEED HELP CYCLING PLEASE

Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:12 PM PDT

Alright so I bought an axolotl about 3 weeks ago, did all my research and somehow missed the nitrogen cycle. I've been doing tons of research on cycling with an axolotl in the tank. He was in a 10g to start but I moved him into a 30g with two hang on back filters in preparation to buy another axie in the future, about 2 weeks ago. I had what I believe to be a bacterial bloom yesterday. Tested the water and ammonia was at .25ppm, nitrite 0, and it looked like nitrate was in between zero and 5ppm. Today the water is a bit clearer and the ammonia seems to have dropped, so I added some sinking pellets to try and get that back up so the bacteria will produce. I have been adding beneficial bacteria in a bottle: terra safe start, safe start plus, and Seachem stability. I'm really at a loss of what to do and I'm becoming extremely anxious about the matter. Is my tank cycling? Should I just let it keep going and just keep testing it and not do anything other than that? Should I tub my axie and just buy ammonia and cycle it that way? I feel so lost it's driving me crazy! I don't want to fuck this up and I wanna give my baby the best life he can have. Please help me out guys. Thank you.

New Owner

Hello fellow Axolotl owners!

I recently adopted an albino axolotl from an exotic pet store and the person who sold me him never told me I needed to cycle the tank before buying the axolotl. So, will my axolotl be okay in an uncycled tank and what can I do to prevent him getting sick and to speed up the cycle process?

Thank you!

What do you guys think of my babies new home? It’s not 100% finished. Just set this up last week. Can’t wait to put them in it! For now, they are happy in their tub Show me your babies homes ☺️
