HELP PLEASE

Posted: 03 Jun 2020 06:16 AM PDT

I have a really large issue, my axolotl recently had a fungle infection, so I put fungus killer tablets in his water, after some research saying it was axolotl friendly. It has been 2 weeks, and he has eaten nothing. I am trying to force feed him, however he is only about 5 inches, and to small for me to pry open his mouth. Someone please help and tell me how to open his mouth, or if there are any better solutions...

Getting my first axolotl! Please give me your advice

Posted: 03 Jun 2020 09:39 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I've been doing my research about Axolotls and I've finally ordered one, I've had a 20 gallon cycled tank with nothing but a few mollies and platies in there for months, they'll be taken out and added to the community tank. I have a piece of spider wood in the tank, a submersible filter, as well as a hang on the back filter. The substrate is sand, and there's many fake and love plants, is there anything I should do differently? Please give me some advice on what I should do :)

Tank cycling with axolotl inside! Advice please!

Posted: 02 Jun 2020 11:43 PM PDT

Hello again,

I had made another post about an axolotl that was given to me. Your advice helped me a lot and i thank you for that! (special thanks to u/viking_unigoat)!

My little gal seems to be fine, temperature is around 18-19 degrees, bought a fan and a new filter but now i need your advice again! I have never before owned an aquarium and i had no idea about cycling the water. I ve read about it and now i am trying to do a cycle while the axolotl inside as i have no other option.

What i do is 20% water changes any other day. I dont have a test kit at the moment but i ll try to test my water at the local pet shop. I have also bought some drops with good bacteria that i used (around 3ml).

Can i do anything else? should i buy some ammonia remover or will it disrupt the cycling procedure?do i need to put the good bacteria drops in every partial water change or is it too much?

Ammonia Spike

Posted: 02 Jun 2020 10:11 PM PDT

Just had a big ammonia spike in my tank! I'm not sure what caused it, as no tank care routine has changed. Readings are pH 6.4, ammonia 8.0, nitrites 0, nitrates 5.0. A 25% water change didn't make a dent in fixing this up, so my axolotl has been tubbed, so that they're in water with better parameters as I try to find the problem. Considering putting them in the fridge overnight so they don't get too hot. Is there something more I can be doing? What's the best course of action to make sure my axolotl can be returned to their bigger tank soon? Any ideas of what could have caused this seemingly random spike? Any help is much appreciated!

I just ordered my babies and this is the video the breeder sent me! They're so small!!

Is there a reason why 1 of my axies is smaller than the other(they were the same size when I got them)? He has this white spot on him, looks like a cut? Also I plan on getting a bigger tank this week. Also they really like the feeder fish, I take them out after like 10min and keep them separate.

Can someone please help!

So my decorations have turned brown due to what I thought was algae build up. Should I clean the decorations? I heard that by cleaning them the biome that was established will get messed up but wt the same time I dont think all the algae build up is good. What should I do?

Rescued Axolotl and a First time owner

Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:27 PM PDT

Hi everyone! I've been lurking on here for a long time and have wanted an axolotl for a while so when I stumbled across some in my local pond store I had to snag one!

I got the smallest of the bunch and as I was talking to the breeder I realized he really didnt know much about them, and when he put the axie in the bag to bring home I saw some really puny looking gills and a bunch of intense white spots. The white has mostly cleared now, and the chunk of his tail that was gone is almost completely back as well, but the main question I have is whether or not a missing gill will regenerate? He has three on one side and two on the other so maybe it's a birth defect or something?

His water quality is good, everything is within normal parameters and the gills he does have are nice and fluffy but I just haven't seen any signs of anything starting to grow back and was curious if there was maybe something I'm doing wrong.
