Just lost a couple koi’s to electrocution. Posted: 05 Jun 2020 03:20 AM PDT Couldn't figure out why, when to grab him and noticed a jolt. One of my new pumps had a short. Be careful y'all. [link] [comments]

Fish dying, can't figure out why? Posted: 04 Jun 2020 05:04 PM PDT Hey guys, this will be a proxy post for my sister and BIL, who don't have Reddit accounts, so I may not be able to give additional info right away, but they have a bit of a problem y'all might be able to help with. If I need to clarify anything please let me know and I will get back with an answer asap. So my BIL raised koi just fine at their old house, no problems afaik. They moved within the same town to a larger house last summer, and only in the last couple of months has he gotten an above-ground pond set up at the new house. He built the new pond about 10' x 12', and is 2' deep with a further 2' hibernation hole in the middle. It has two waterfalls to keep the water circulating, and all the plants he has in it are plants he had in the pond at the old house. Sis told me that the plants she remembers are water lilies and pond hyacinth. There's also an extra aerating pump on the other side of the pond from the waterfalls to make sure oxygen is flowing all around the pond. I give you all this information because it seems like the fish are all dying one by one. Sis and BIL have tested the water for ammonia, chlorine, pH levels, nitrate, and nitrite levels. They have treated the pond for bacterial and parasitic infections, but the fish still get sick and are dying. The koi act lethargic a few days before dying, are attempting to jump out of the pond, and are swimming close to the surface, which Sis told me that that's what they do when they have a parasite infection. BIL took one of the fish to their local koi pond store after it died, and the people there can't find anything wrong with it. They've taken all the store's advice on what to do with the pond. All the koi did come from the same store, as well as the plants. The store says they haven't had similar issues. [link] [comments]
Had an unexpected fish death yesterday and not sure why. Here are my water quality results Posted: 04 Jun 2020 11:08 AM PDT pH - 9.0 ammonia - .25 nitrite - 0 phosphate - 1 I know the phosphate is a bit high but would any of these result in the fish dying? It was so unexpected and I don't want any of my other fish to die. [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jun 2020 05:44 AM PDT Last night at around 2:30am, my fish decided to jump out of the pool and, to my assumption, got himself hurt in the process by a cut on the side of the pond and a concussion because of the fall down. I put him back in and monitored his health for hours, resolved multiple issues of unresponsiveness and it felt like he was 'blind', he didn't seem to respond to light at all. I just attempted to feed for the second time since it happened (first time right after the accident to see if he would react to that) and he simply doesn't seem to care about the koi pellets, I then fed my sturgeon with the heavy pellets that my Koi usually prefer and he just swam in the opposite corner. Is he dealing with stress and unbothered to eat, or is there an issue I'm not knowledgeable on? Is there any way I can stimulate him to eat or is it a waiting process? [link] [comments] |
