| What vegetables can I give my goldfish? Posted: 11 May 2020 05:41 PM PDT As a note, I dont own them yet. I started my 55 gallon cycling today. I will get 3 in a couple weeks. Can I throw vegetables in for them? Like carrots or zucchini? [link] [comments] | ||

| Posted: 11 May 2020 04:26 PM PDT My goldfish eat EVERYTHING. Leafy plants are almost always doomed, only anubias seems to survive. They even devoured hornwort when I tried it.. On tough plants like bamboo, they dig em up and eat the roots so the plants die. I'm upgrading my tank to a 75 gallon, so I have plenty of space for plants (and of course for my fishies). So far I've gotten a 18" anubias plant that I'm planting in a bowl as a centerpiece, but I would like to provide more greenery for my babies. Anyone have ideas for plants that work with particularly ravenous goldfish? [link] [comments] | ||
| Tanksize what's your opinion? 63 gal Posted: 11 May 2020 08:50 AM PDT Hey, I am considering goldfish for a while now, what are you thinking about a 63 gallon tank. Would that be suitable in anyway. How many fish would you keep in there? I thought about 2 to 3 fish. Thank you a lot. [link] [comments] | ||
| Urgent issue after changing pond water for first time. Posted: 11 May 2020 07:21 AM PDT I moved into a house last year with a small pond and water feature that had some goldfish in it. Surprisingly we never had to feed them once, they were totally self sustainable and even bred and we had more than we started with. Yesterday I had a guy come out and look at it and he recommended we change the water and power wash all the scum and stuff off the bottom and take out all these plants that had roots clogging everything so the water is more clear. Wellll we did that and put all the goldfish in a big bucket filled with their current pond water while we filled the pond with hose water. I put in some pond clairifier but we apparently missed some fish hiding in the muck and so there were a couple goldfish swimming in the new pond water already. They were acting very sluggish and staying near the top of the water until they eventually died pretty quickly. I thought it may be a aPh issue so I ran out and bought Tetra Easybalance ph solution and poured about half a bottle of that in the pond. The rest of the fish, 10 or so are still sitting in the bucket in the dirty water. I'm afraid to put them in the pond now fearing that they will die. I ordered an API pond test kit but it won't be here for a few days. Does anyone have any suggestions as what to do? I'm getting kinda nervous I might have totally screwed everything up. I also worry that taking out the rooted plants might have taken away their food source since now it's mainly rocks on the bottom. There were a bunch of tadpoles in the old water but now none in the new water. I'll post pictures below. [link] [comments] | ||
| Should I bother to keep feeding my new pond comets? Will they ever show up again? Posted: 11 May 2020 12:35 AM PDT Bought seven cheap feeder comets from a local place to add to my 750 gal pond last week. Pond was inherited and well established, mostly lilies and hornwort. I've added other misc plants like elodea but they're minor players. No other inhabitants - they perished in the six month gap between the old owners moving out and us moving in. It was extremely gross dealing with that. Anyways, acclimated the comets to temps and sent them off on their way and haven't seen them since. I assume they're still alive and l think I know where they're hiding but am leaving them be. I've tried feeding them small amounts of food a couple times a day. As far as I can tell they haven't eaten any of it so I've just been skimming it out a few hours after feedings. Should I even bother trying anymore? I bought them mostly for the purpose of keeping my bug population in check. There's plenty for them to munch on. I was just tossing them feed because I didn't want to make their dietary change too abrupt. I just also don't want to add a bunch of food if all it's going to do is feed the algae. I'd love for them to come out and say hey eventually but can't really force that. I'm fairly confident they haven't been picked off by a predator. I did a 90% (at least) water change 5 weeks ago, they have proper aeration, all levels check out, water temps have been hovering around 70. pH has been 8.0ish but steady. Added pond salt before adding and water has been treated. 🤷 I seriously have no clue if they still exist. Only thing I've noticed is the larvae putzing around the slow spots seem to be less of a thing. [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 11 May 2020 02:22 AM PDT Hi so basically im stupid and bought a uv sterilizer from china that is the exposed type not the safe enclosed type. I don't want to chuck it out so I was wondering if it is safe to put in the internal filtration at the back of my tank. It is separated by black plastic board. would that harm my fish? The tank is 60L/15gal and the uv steriliser unit is 3 watts. Any help is appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments] |
