Help please, I'm new in this. Can someone tell me what is wrong with my fish, he has something on his head, what is that?, what I need to do?

Ordered my first 90P and every dream tank accessory, but the tank came shattered. Ordered a replacement, came shattered. Decided screw it, bought a 40g basic aquarium. Happy with the result even if it’s not my original vision. Cycling now!

Please help -- Pearlscale lost all scales

Posted: 08 May 2020 09:41 PM PDT

Hello,

I'm very new to fishkeeping so please don't roast me. My pearlscale suddenly lost almost all of her scales today. I don't know what to do to help her. The water parameters were bad because I fell behind on cleaning the tank, so I did a 100% water change yesterday and was planning to monitor it, but obviously this is now more pressing than just monitoring the situation. (Sorry I didn't test the water before I changed it.)

It looks like her fins are a bit frayed as well. I'm very new to fishkeeping but I suspect the other fish in the tank is a male, he sometimes pokes at her gently, but this is... excessive. The male seems to be doing just fine.

What can I do for her?

where to find HIGH QUALITY ranchu? ( my ranchu breeding plan ) ( need 6 - 8 quality ranchu fry )

where to find HIGH QUALITY ranchu? ( my ranchu breeding plan ) ( need 6 - 8 quality ranchu fry )

i'm going to commit and try to breed my first batch of ranchu, and this is how i (plan) to go along doing it! advice and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

- obtain a batch of several baby ranchu, all from the same breeder. (gary hater, or ranchu notes)
- raise them in large bins, 4 inches of water, feeding them 1-3 times a day with a diet consisting of brine shrimp, bloodworms, and later hikari pellets & repashy.
- continue to raise and groom them until they are ultimately ready to be placed in the 75g aqueon aquarium, deepening their back curves and providing more space.
- raise until they reach maturity, in which (hopefully) around 1 year old they will begin to show breeding behavior, and chase eachother around the tank. (hopefully my batch will include a good ratio of male and female; i will ask the breeder)
- i will let them breed naturally in a separate breeding tank container, if i am unsuccessful i may use the hand breeding method, in which hopefully that succeeds.
- my fry will hatch and i will (hopefully) raise them successfully, i may keep a few of my personal favorite fry and sell many other (HOPEFULLY) high quality other fry from my batches. i will cull the ones with deformities, etc. (i may sell those in bulk locally or to my local petshop).
- continue to groom the fry i have kept until they reach maturity, and repeat the cycle of breeding them.

(NOTE: throughout all this i will be doing 100% water changes every 4-7 days, etc)

- i will keep certain selective fish that in my 75 gallon tank for myself, most likely the fish i have already bred.

One of my goldfish has a sideways face, I'm guessing a birth defect, but I've noticed it looks very similar to the face of a flatfish! Has anybody ever seen something like this in a goldfish? Or any other fish for that matter? (He's healthy btw, just a quirky face)

Anyone know what this is?

Anyone know what this is?

PIC INCLUDED

So this started out as a small white dot (similar to the one that you see near the cyst) that I thought was just wen growth and later developed into a small cyst-like look that seemed out of place on the wen. Now .. it looks like whatever you see in the pic.

She's otherwise behaving normally, no swim issues, eating fine.

She's literally by herself in a 50 gallon rubbermaid water tank - no other tankmates except emersed green scallions.

Filter is a fluval 307, but only running for a month so a bit of new tank syndrome with the parameters - dosing with seachem prime and stability.

Should I get a wave maker?

Posted: 08 May 2020 03:32 PM PDT

I have a 40 gallon breeder tank with 2 fantail goldfish. When I change their water, I notice they love swimming into the current as a dump each bucket of new water in. I notice also that at my LFS that their goldfish section for fancy goldfish have wavemakers. I know that they are weak swimmers but should I consider getting a wave makers for them? If so, what would be a good option for the setup that I have?

Why do my goldfish bottom-sit in the afternoon?

Posted: 08 May 2020 04:34 AM PDT

2 fancies, about 3 years old, 30g tank. They eat fine and first thing in the morning they are very active. By about midday they both bottom sit in the corner and don't wake up again until early evening at which point they are a bit lazy and lethargic. Rinse and repeat.

I do regular water changes, parameters are fine but I've been getting a lot of algae lately.

This is a recent problem but one of them had fin rot a few months back and still has blood patches on the tail fins which are very slowly fading away.
