What have I gotten into???

I'm working on a native stream paludarium and I let my daughter drop a wild crayfish in. Suddenly my plants are gone. I'm assuming it came out of the water to eat them? Please tell me it can't climb a foot long cord (not in water) and escape.... Other advice is appreciated as well!

Just a crayfish story...

Posted: 28 May 2020 09:30 AM PDT

About 3 months ago I was in a pet store and saw these beautiful blue crayfish. I had to have them. I bought everything right then and there and got them set up in their new home. Things were good. We were happy. Then one of them hid for about two weeks. I thought something might be off when it came out and had weird spots on it's back tail. I pulled her out and wouldn't you know it... Babies.

My roommate and I set up a little babies basket and decided to raise them and sell them or give them to local pet shops. My roommate built a beautiful tank for them and cared for them religiously. They're doing great for the most part and some are even for big enough to be re-homed already.

Then, about 3 weeks ago, right after mom crayfish molted, dad ripped off her claws and ate them, which was horrifying. I got a tank divider to keep that from happening again, but dad crayfish kept using it to sneak out of the tank and venture the house. Mom's claws grew back and as soon as they did she started climbing over it to get to him! I can't keep these two apart.

Anyways, my lady crayfish is dickmatized. That's all.

So I just got two more crayfish, after previously having one really small one, now i have one medium and a large one. I keep them in three separate containers with homemade gravel at the bottom, their containers get larger for each crawfish and none of them have too much space, but the big one has a lot of it, I'm scared to put two in the larger one and one of the others in the smaller container, inhave plenty of pipes and stuff, but I am relatively new to this and dont know how it should be set up, location of crawfish wise. I can post more info if nesassasary, but it would be really nice if an experienced person could give me their input.

Um, can I Get Some Help?

Posted: 28 May 2020 11:38 AM PDT

I got my pet crawfish yesterday morning, spent all day hand making and cutting everything, last night he escaped. this morning we found him in the pool filter with two more, i guess i decided to keep them. now we have two containers that open to the sky without filters and i just saw the biggest one, Mr./Ms. pinchers going in the other ones grill and trying to flip them over. anyone have any solutions for what to do tonight, when they actually start to move around? also I need help identifying them and their gender.

Crayfish are eating my plants!!

I have 2 dwarf crayfish in my planted aquarium, and they eat all the leaves off my plants! It is amusing, but now I'm sad bc my plants are destroyed. Is there any way to get them to not destroy everything?

So I thought you guys might find this pretty cool. I checked my creek wading shoes today and found a perfectly preserved dried crayfish. I wish I spotted him sooner so I could of put him in the aquarium

I got a crayfish from a river and it has worms what can I do or what can I add to the water so the worms can die.
