This morning I found my axolotl ... dead.
Don't ask me what happened because I don't know.
Yesterday, before I went to bed he was completely fine.
This morning he was on his side, mouth open, not moving at all.
Took him out and put him in a smaller bin, you never know if he's just ill but still alive.
However there was nothing. No response to me getting close, no movement at all.
He did hurt himself a while back and ate a bit less but overall still looked incredibly healthy. He also didn't act up or seemed to be in pain. Always did his usual thing around the tank, going to his usually places at his usual times. During the day either flat out middle of the tank or in his hide-y hole. During the evening in the corner waiting on his food. That never changed.

It really kind of came out of the blue. And once again, I don't know what to do. My other axolotl actually struggled for a few months. She started having problems shortly after a heat wave hit and I was unable to keep my tank at an "ok" temperature. I checked and tried everything to get her healthy again. This time, I didn't even get the chance. It's completely out of nowhere. There were no signs of him getting "bad". It literally looks like he just gave up.

Adopted toothless for 1.5 years ago. Always had short 'frills'. They go through phases of growth and shrinking often accompanied by what looks like dirt which I have seen her shake off on the past. Any thoughts on how to improve her gills?
