- Clownfish Closeup: Carpet Anemone life :)
- Quarantine Week 4 - FTS
- Got my new lights installed today and a new frogspawn! Very happy with it
- UPDATE: full split.
- New frogspawn opened up a ton!
- Clown pulled some Chris Angel shenanigans on me.
- My 29 gallon tank. Had it about 2 years. 6 months into my first year I got a fish that must have been sick and 2 days later everything died. Let it just run with some crabs and snails for 3-4 months before I finally added a diamond goby. Finally have something going again!
- New display and lagoon frag tank coming along great.
- The best algae eaters!
- This this is over a foot long... makes little sand balls and rearranges the substrate. 10/10 sandbed cleaner.
- The HOB tank is coming along nicely. Next tank will DEFINITELY have a sump, thoughZ
- Help please
- Just finished cycling and rockscape of 160L/42G reef. Thoughts or improvements?
- Salt
- Hydroid or starfish?
- Transplanting Biological filter
- After many delays and some losses, I finally got the new scape in. Lots of gluing ahead
- Reef tank 54g
- White hole in coral
- What is this orange thing growing out of my GSP?
- 60 gallon
- Started my first reef tank back in October. I've definitely had some mishaps and hurdles, but all in all I'm happy with how it's going so far. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions :)

| Transplanting Biological filter Posted: 14 Apr 2020 10:54 PM PDT So I'm curious... I'll ask my question first and then I'll give the backstory. Let's say you have a small tank, say 20 gallons that was originally intended to be used as a quarantine tank. If you were to purchase biological filter media, and add in the bacteria, start dosing and following the cycle to create that bacteria... Would you be able to remove that biological filter media, and place it in the sump of another tank? Now the backstory. I'm impatient as hell, and I have a 75 Gallon reef tank that has been running since the beginning of February. I've had GHA break out once, and more recently, some other kind of stringy algae, and the test kits are telling me there are no nitrates or phosphates in the water, but from what I understand, the presence of GHA would indicate otherwise. My father helped me set up the tank, as he was in the hobby 10 years ago, but we went about cycling all wrong. We bought dead rock and dead sand, and we added clownfish to produce ammonia rather than dosing ammonia, along with a few corals. We also turned on the lights, 2 165W Viparspectra LED Hanging lights. At this point, my tank is still showing that I have ammonia in it, and I thought maybe it was overfeeding, so I cut way back in food, but we still have roughly 0.25ppm ammonia, even after multiple water changes in the last month. If I establish the biological filter the right way, but externally, can I just move the filter media that houses the bacteria into a new tank? And if so, why haven't LFS started selling / making precycled filter media to speed things up for impatient folks like me? Maybe I'm missing something, but I figured I would ask before I started doing it [link] [comments] | ||
