Need help troubleshooting cycling tank. Made a mistake? Posted: 07 Apr 2020 10:44 AM PDT Hi all, I've gone backwards in my cycling and maybe someone with experience can help! I have cycled this tank once before, but after having it empty and then rescaping it, I am cycling again. However, I'm doing something wrong this time. Fluval Spec V, filter that came with. 72F (my heater broke and is on reorder). Using aquarium ammonia to keep it up to 3ppm. Planted tank, sand substrate, full of pond/pest snails. i was getting down to 0ppm in 48hrs and things were going well. i cleaned up by vacuuming a bunch of snail waste and muck off of the sand because it was getting gross looking (is this my mistake?) and added about 2 gals back to the tank on March 25th. things still seemed to be going ok though. each day from then until March 30th, i was still getting drops in ammonia level each day and adding ammonia back to get it up to 3ppm. From March 30 to April 4, I wasn't seeing a drop in ammonia, it was hovering around 2-3ppm. It just started to drop and today I am getting 0.25ppm. What did I do? Any ideas why I seemed to stall out? I know it can take a while, but I'm getting frustrated (I've been trying to get it cycled since the end of Jan, and I thought I was almost there). [link] [comments] |
