Pond Water Jarrarium update Day 24: After a mass extinction event... Only some worms, and copapods left, but lots of algae.

Started my first bottle yesterday with water, sediment, and some pond weed from a local stream. I can already see some little snails and maybe a flat worm starting to come out

My favourite of the snails from my ecosphere. I have checked a guide for New Zealand freshwater invertebrates but could not find this fella. I'll have to do a bit more research

I made my first jarrarium

Is it worth it to try and take apart this massive lightbulb to make a jarrarium? I'm worried about the inside tube thing, found this in my local creek.

My salamander tadpole is playing dead.

Posted: 11 Apr 2020 04:40 PM PDT

So I have been lurking around this subreddit and I decided to make a Jarrarium with the pond water next to my house, and I caught a couple of tadpoles, but I caught a more "advanced" tadpole. Turns out I caught a salamander. So right now it's floating at the top belly side up, but when I poke it with a chopstick, it swims away and keeps playing dead. Does anybody know what's going on with him?

Where do you get the dirt for your jars?

Is it a mix of different substrates ordered offline or stuff found locally?
