Usually they spawn after a water change, but all it took this time was adding a few plants. White specks on the black gravel are all eggs.

Had to empty the pond today for some maintenance. The cat and the goldies got better acquainted.

Here’s a better video showing why I’m so concerned about this breeding behavior.

Is there a name for the colour pattern of this white gold fantail? She is gold in all the rays of the fins and face. She began as a calico with one blue eye and one red eye, then grew into this unique pattern.

Two of my goldfish. The oranda is my favourite but don’t tell the others. I don’t want to hurt their feelings.

I recently started to cycle my new 55 gal tank. I set this up thinking it would be universal and I could decide on which fish to stock later. I have now fallen for the Fancy Goldies... would this tank work for Fancy Goldfish? I would hate to change the gravel because it's Flourite and was $60..

What are they doing? The smaller one might be a female.

Please help! My one fish has been having swim bladder issues and has been struggling to stay low in the tank. Today the other fish has been swimming weirdly too, as if it’s drifting and going up and down the tank. Anything can help!

do i give away my goldfish?

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 10:15 PM PDT

i got three goldfish at the beginning of april, i wasn't really planning on getting them. i'm a high school student and i've mostly been the only one taking care of them. i've been doing a lot of maintenance, especially since i have a small tank.

apparently my dad's assistant is offering to take them (long story). i think my parents don't like that i'm spending so much time and effort on them and they think it's gonna be bad for my studying. the assistant seems like she'd take good care of them at least, she already keeps snails and a lot of plants and takes a lot of time caring for them (according to my dad).

i didn't agree but my mom has already told the assistant that we'd give her the fish. i think i still have a choice, but it's obvious my parents want me to give them away. i'm considering the option because taking care of the fish has been more stressful than pleasurable for me, even though i do like looking at them. it seems like maybe she'd be more adequate, since i'm still a student and can't afford certain things and once school starts i probably won't be able to care for them this frequently.

what should i do?

Is it a parasite?

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 05:18 PM PDT

Today I caught my goldfish pooping a long, white poop. Something they used to do when they had poor diet and I haven't seen lately. I then saw him eat it, spit it out, eat it again, and swallow. Is this a parasite? About 5 min later he pooped a normal goldfish poop (dark color, small, broke off right away). What should I do? What are the next steps? I'd post pictures but I haven't caught them doing this in a long time.

2 young singletailed goldfish in 55 gal (Plan to upgrade ASAP), 25% water changes every 3 days OR 15% water change every day. Ammonia, Nitrates and Nitrites close to zero.

Want to be a fish parent again, but not a grandparent

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 02:50 PM PDT

I currently have a male comet goldfish. I was thinking about getting another fish, but I don't want them to mate because I can't handle a bunch of babies rn. I know fish have physical characteristics that can indicate their sex, but my understanding is that they're only prominent during mating season (my fish's "male spots" by his gills recently have disappeared). Is there any way making fish grandchildren can be avoided?

Why do my goldfish start and stop chasing?

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:17 AM PDT

So I have a around 2 and a half year old black moor and my (I think) 3 year old orange telescope. My black moor who is male starts chasing the female, I think it is to stimulate egg production. But when he does it he stops after a minute or half a minute. Is this normal?

Beginner goldfish help, anchor worm and fin damage.

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 06:34 AM PDT

Greetings everyone, my soon to be two year old son loves fish so we got a 5 gallon tank then recently a 20 high tank for more fun. We have what I believe two comet goldfish. After going through many fish which seemed to have swim bladder issues from the big box fish stores I think I've finnaly realized that many have diseases and parasites that need to be treated when brought home. That became evident in my discovery last night of anchor worms. I removed them and have melafix fish remedy on the way for bacteria treatment.

I'm curious what you all recommend for the calico fishes back tail it looks like it's missing part of its fin. Also what you recommend to treat the whole tank for any anchor worm larvae or eggs or any other parasites that may have come from the petstore.

Thanks in advance
