Meet my new Goldfish. I always wanted a Goldfish as a kid since I can’t owe a dog.

Odd question but... does anyone know where I could get a yellow common like this one?

Does anyone know of a reputable place to get celestial goldfish or have tips for keeping them?

Posted: 14 Apr 2020 06:34 PM PDT

I have some fishkeeping experience. I have a tank empty and I did a ton of research (I know goldfish need lots of space, lots of filtration, are poop machines, etc) and have been lurking on the sub for a while.

I was considering fancy goldfish now that I have the space, so they could be social. My roommate fell in love with celestials. I have to admit, they're adorable. I just haven't seen much about celestials on the sub or online.

I know that they can't have decorations that could hurt their eyes, so basically only plants, and no other fish except other celestials/telescopes. I haven't found much beyond that so if anyone has experience that would be lovely. Also, are the fish in pain because their eyes point up? I do worry about that a bit...

is this size gravel safe?

is this size gravel safe?

my fish are around 3-4 cm. i've already filled a new tank with this gravel and i'm not sure if it's safe for my goldfish, since a lot of sites recommend sand instead.

gray spots on goldfish

gray spots on goldfish

i got three small goldfish about a week ago, realized the tank was wayy too small so i got a new one and i'm currently trying to cycle it. meanwhile the fish are still in the old tank (small but has necessary equipment).

this one is the smallest of the three (although not significantly) and i noticed some gray spots on its scales that previously weren't there. is this normal? might be overreacting but i'm just worried if it's sick.

also any kind of advice on taking care of goldfish would be appreciated, specifically on moving these guys to a bigger tank! i'm very new to this.

Please help! What is wrong:( Video Included

Posted: 14 Apr 2020 06:45 PM PDT

Here is the video https://streamable.com/w2k8kx

Had this guy since November, he is so quick and so strong nothing has phased him. A few weeks ago my tank actually broke and we had to get a new one... we salvaged a lot of the tank water, kept the filter running in the water etc saved all the ornaments. About 2hr later the new tank was up and running, I didn't have another tank to put the fish in so the only option was to start a new tank with the plants, ornaments, stones and filter from the one that broke.

What's up with this little guy? Yesterday we would occasionly lie on the floor on his side but swim around and now he's just erratically pumping his gills. I've just removed him into a container so I could inspect him. As we are under quarantine the only things I have on hand meds wise is white spot treatment, hydrogen peroxide , broad spectrum and fluke/worm treatment tablets.

Any advice will be appreciated. I have been doing regular water changes due to it being a new tank so I don't think the water is the issue.

Harley swimming her daily laps! I won her at a carnival in July 2019, I can’t believe how long she’s decided to be with me. I never thought I could love a goldfish this much

Can you have “too much” filtration?

Posted: 14 Apr 2020 08:43 AM PDT

I'm planning on getting a pair of fancy goldfish for my birthday in September, and am researching filters beforehand. I've seen a lot of people recommend having two. For a 29 gallon planted tank (starting with young fish), is a 159 gal per hour canister filter and a back-hanging 40-70 gallon filter alright? Can you have "too much" filtration? Thank you & wishing good health to you all!
