Posted: 09 Apr 2020 09:04 PM PDT Hello Reddit, I just purchased a blue egg Phoenix and noticed one anal fin is about the quarter of the size of the other. I've been going back and forth with the breeder and he claims this is not an issue. However, I believe this will make an already delicate fish even more stressed to swim. Am I overreacting? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 04:18 PM PDT Hey fellow goldfish enthusiasts! I am trying to cycle my tank for a goldfish and this is my second attempt in 4 months. I am desperate to get this thing started. Starting specs: 3/30/2020 PH: 7.8 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate:0 Temp : 85 F I added 210 drops of ammonia to get it to 4 ppm I've been testing every day/every other day. My ammonia started to come down (yay) and nitrites started to come up. I was having to add ammonia every day for 3 days and I was very excited. Then on : 4/7/2020 Ammonia: 1 Nitrite: 5 Nitrate : 0 added 140 drops of ammonia and got it back up to 4 ppm. It's been 2 days and my ammonia hasn't dropped at all. These are my stats: 4/9/2020 Ammonia: 4 Nitrite: 0.25 Nitrate: 160 PH: 6.8 Temp : 85 F So, as you can see, my ammonia is staying the same at 4 ppm, my nitrite is dropping and my nitrate is sky rocketing. At this point, it looks like my poor ammonia eating bacteria are going to die. I've tried searching the archives for this and r/aquarium and was unable to find any good answers. I've also tried googling this problem to no avail... maybe I'm just bad at using good search keywords? I know that these things take a lot of time and patience. I would find it very helpful if someone with more experience could perhaps explain to me what is happening and guide me in the right direction. Thanks! Edit: Forgot to add, it's a 38 gallon tank :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:32 AM PDT Hi all, We're about to move house this weekend. The house we are currently living in has mains (chlorinated) water, so since we got the fish we have been using bioactive tapsafe plus to neutralise the chlorine. However the water source in the new house has its own well, so no chlorine in the water. Should I keep using this additive? We also use an ammonia remover. I've been doing approx 25% water changes for the last couple of days in prep for the move and will continue to do it once we move in. Is there anything else I should be doing? How much distress could the new, different water cause the fish? We're only moving about 10 minutes down the road so I am going to transfer the fish into a bucket that I use for cleaning their tank for the actual move, so I'm not overly worried About that part. Thanks in advance for any advice! [link] [comments]
My tank stinks of sulfur/rotten eggs Posted: 09 Apr 2020 10:36 AM PDT Hey all, I have one common in a 45G tank. I have sand as my substrate. 2 Amazon Sword plants. Water parameters are at ~6.0 pH, ~.25 ppm Ammonia, 0 ppm Nitrite, and ~5.0 ppm Nitrate. My tank stinks like sulfur and it's driving me crazy! I'm familiar with the "bad bacteria" that forms in pockets under sand substrate, and I admittedly wasn't vacuuming my sand as often as I probably should have been. First day I noticed it, I did a huge water change and scrubbed down my tank ornaments, shifted all of my sand around, etc. It's been about a week now with only a slight difference in smell. I've added a new carbon filter to try to soak up the smell, but it hasn't helped. Is this just a waiting game?? All input is helpful!! [link] [comments] |
