Feeding my axolotl

Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:07 AM PDT

Hello, I just got an axolotl from my biology teacher to take care of for the duration of this pandemic. She gave me pellets to feed him but I'm not sure how I should give them to him. Do I just drop them in the tank and let them float and he will swim up to the top and grab them himself? Or do I feed them to him manually? Please help! -a new axolotl owner

Is it possible for algae to attach to gills? I've not seen a fungus or bacteria look like this...

Anyone know what these little white worms are on the glass of Lottie’s tank?

Hello!!! I have recently bought a melanoid axie from a friend! It’s about four months old and five inches long. I have no clue on how to tell the gender, and how much to feed it... I’ve got bloodworms and pellets... could y’all help me out a bit here? (Name of axie pending)

Not eating well since switch to earthworms.

Posted: 24 Apr 2020 09:59 PM PDT

I've been doing twice a day brine shrimp and blood worms for the last three weeks. This week I started transitioning to earthworms. My axolotl is now 5 inches, and, prior to the switch has been eating well.

I have the earthworm worms cut up in very very small - pellet sized pieces. I usually feed with tweezers.

My axis isn't interested. Like has hardly eaten in the last three days. Maybe one tiny piece of worm per day. And when I can get him to take a piece; often he chews it for a second and then spits it out. I'm getting worried. Suggestions?

Are pellets too hard for axolotls?

Posted: 24 Apr 2020 03:32 PM PDT

I have bene feeding my 3.5 month old axie brine shrimp and blood worms so far. She's about three inches long and I feed her in the morning and in the evening, she only ever takes a few bites but always seems ravenous for the first couple bites.

I'm a little worried she isn't eating enough, so I wanted to buy pellets to be able to better measure how much she consumes in one sitting.

I'm just wondering if the pellets are too hard? I got some shrimp pellets for carnivorous bottom feeders. They are tiny and hard, I'm just worried she'll choke on them.

Anyone have any tips?

Axie attitude

Posted: 24 Apr 2020 03:11 PM PDT

Does anyone else find there Axie has a very distinct personality and attitude? Yesterday night I had to tub Quetzalcoatl because I had to clean and rearrange the tank and I wanted her to get used to eating on one side of the tank so that when the new one goes into it in 3 weeks she'll be used to where her bowl is and hopefully we won't have any fights about food.

I put her back in her tank after everything was set back up and she took to the back corner to hide which I was expecting but didn't come up when I put bloodworms in a bowl which she usually does. All day today she's been soaking in the back of her tank and won't to come to the front where we could see her.

So between Quetzalcoatl sulking and Ix Chels' tank overheating I have two very angsty axolotls.
