Guide to telling snails apart? (Info in comments)

Posted: 17 Apr 2020 06:55 AM PDT

Finally figured out he’s a Japanese Trap Door! He was sold to me as a mystery in December. I didn’t question it until about a month ago when I realized Ivy IS NOT a mystery. Last night while perusing online stores I came across JTD and put two & two together. I’m so excited about this discovery!

Can anyone please identify this snail? Came in with a rock or plant and I've never seen anything like it. Long and pointy shell and very slow

Any help identifying these two? I've had them for months now and they just keep on growing. They haven't reproduced at all but the smaller one loves hitching a ride lol

Hundreds of these in my tank...what are they and how do I get rid of them?

New black rabbit snails are very lethargic and inactive. I put them in a breeder box to watch activity levels closer. They are not dead. What’s going on? Can I do anything to help?

"Storing Sperm"

Posted: 17 Apr 2020 09:10 AM PDT

I bought 1 orange and 1 yellow rabbit snail SEVEN MONTHS ago. They're different species, right? They can't make babies together? And they can't make babies alone? It takes a momma and a poppa, no?

I've found 14 yellow and 11 orange itty bitty nibs since September. I mean, I'm thrilled, but…

Please explain.

I am not a scientist, but the whole storing sperm hypothesis is getting harder and harder to believe. Snail anatomy is pretty simple. A gastropod is one long stomach foot, after all. Is sperm stored in a separate compartment in perpetuity? Wouldn't the sperm get used up or squeezed out after dozens of babies and weeks have passed?

What kind of snail can be kept without a filter/heater / aquarium technology being a necessity??

Posted: 17 Apr 2020 10:15 AM PDT

Hi, I'm looking into getting my first bunch of aquatic snails soon, and I was wondering what kind of snails can be kept in an aquarium that does not have electronics of any kind(I'm looking into getting a proper setup, but I wanna keep some in a tank with just the water and some plants as well soo) . I would prefer if you could tell me the Latin names for the species of snail, as I live in Austria, which means that English terms aren't exactly useful if I'm trying to find snailsin Austrian pet stores/sellers. Thanks in advance ~ Anna
