Aquatic Koi Koi pond filter advice, if you please. Just bought this house and it has an existing pond. The original pump and filter system are inop and look pretty home made. Any advice on which product to use? Sorry if r/koi is the wrong platform.

Help with cleaning, backwashing and rinsing the filter

Hey All,

Long time lurker around Reddit and I have Battled the last 2 weeks to clean the filter at my GF's house. During this lockdown period I am staying with her to help around her house and make sure all the maintenence is done.

I have been backwashing and rinsing since the lockdown began. I can see the water level decrease and it seemed to be going well. Yesterday the fountain outlet was dropping in strength after 1 day so i opened the filter and the water didn't drain AT ALL. I moved my hand around and tried to remove any big clumps of algae and move the stones around but it did not drain any of the water.

I have attached a picture of the piping and i'm hoping someone can give me some advice on how to backwash and rinse the filter. I'm really worried about running a bearing and seizing the motor and there is absolutely no way to get any spares or a replacement at the moment.

I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Small koi with fin damage due to getting stuck in the intake.

I'm trying help a small butterfly koi that got stuck in the pump a few weeks ago. He still swims but will mostly lay on the bottom of the pond floor. He's been hiding under a rock for a few days so when I saw him out today with this slime/film over his fin injuries I pulled him out. He hasn't been swimming lately just sitting at the bottom.

here's the fish

Is he trying to heal? Do I remove the buildup? I've never dealt with an injured koi. What should I do from here? When I've seen him swim it doesn't seem like he has a spine injury.. his fins are just mangled.
